Membership Requirements

  • 3.5 non-weighted cumulative GPA
  • pass NJHS Faculty Council application review
  • pass faculty review
  • attend Fall induction ceremony

 

  • maintain NJHS leadership, scholarship, service, character and citizenship standards
  • ten hours of community service per semester
  • monthly meetings (7:20 am)

Ø      Write one well-written paragraph (typed or word processed) for each of the four essay questions below. Give as many personal examples as you can when responding. Carefully proofread your final product; the quality of your presentation will be considered when evaluating your overall application to NJHS.

Ø      Please attach this cover sheet on top of your type-written answers and submit to the chapter adviser.

Ø      Please list any clubs, school, church, teams, musical groups, or other organizations you are or have been involved with.  Include the year (6, 7, 8) in which you participated.

Ø      Submit a copy of your most recent report card. 

Ø      Incomplete applications will not be considered. Submit by the due date. (05-06 application date yet to be determined—watch for details during registration in August, or during the first two weeks of school.)

 

ESSAY QUESTIONS

 

  1. Your teachers will be asked to submit comments on your leadership, citizenship, and character, and you are asked to comment on all three areas as well.  Using personal examples, please explain the importance to you of good character, citizenship, and positive leadership in school and in your life.

 

  1. "Everyone has the power for greatness, not for fame but for greatness, because greatness is determined by service." Respond to this quote by explaining contributions you would like to make to NJHS and your community. Explain how you intend to make these contributions.

 

  1.  Write a response to the following: "What we do on some great occasion will probably depend on what we already are, and what we are will be the result of precious years of self-discipline…The measure of a person’s character is what he would do if he knew he would never be found out.”

 

  1. What does it mean to you to be in NJHS?  In what ways do you feel the Honor Society could serve the school and/ or the community?
