Peer Mediation &
Counseling
Following a curriculum teaching conflict resolution, our mediators
are able to assist students in conflict to find common ground on any given
issue. Because the peer mediators
are working with students about personal feelings and problems, they are
required to maintain confidentiality, which includes destroying any notes
taken during a mediation. The Peak
to Peak counselors are always available to assist the mediators at any
given time if questions arise, or if there is an issue too great for the
mediators to handle themselves. Our
mediators have also had the privilege of presenting to health classes about
drug and alcohol abuse, the effect that the media has on youth, and suicide
prevention. By having the peer
mediation program at Peak to Peak, we provide positive role models for
younger students to look up to, as well as students teaching their peers
better ways to solve conflict.
