Open Enrollment Audition Information

To all students new to Peak to Peak,

Welcome!  We’re glad you’ve chosen to come to Peak to Peak, and to participate in our music program.  Music and the arts are an important part of our curriculum.  We strive to place every student in an ensemble where they will be comfortable, but also be challenged to grow as musicians, as members of a group, and as members of the community.

Instrumental auditions (Band and String Orchestra)

Please bring a short prepared piece (no longer than 2 minutes) that will give the director a good idea of your playing abilities (it can be a part of a longer piece).  You will also be asked to do some sight reading.

You will be asked to play different scales depending on what ensemble you plan to enter.  The ensembles and the average playing experience are listed below, along with the scales you should be able to play.

Band:

General Band (2^nd year players) – F and B flat major (concert)

Intermediate/Concert Band (3^rd/4^th year players) – all of the above, plus E flat and A flat major (concert)

Wind Symphony (4^th year +) – all of the above, plus D flat, C, and G major (concert)

Orchestra:

General Orchestra (2^nd year players) – G and D major

Concert Orchestra (3^rd/4^th year players) –  the above scales, plus A major (violins must start on G string) and F major

Chamber Orchestra (4^th year +) – the above scales, plus E and B flat major

Vocal auditions (Choirs)

Please bring a short prepared piece (no longer than 2 minutes) that will give the director a good idea of your vocal abilities (it can be a part of a longer piece).  The piece should be sung a capella (without accompaniment). You will also be asked to do some sight reading (melodic and rhythmic).

You will be asked to match pitches as well as short vocal phrases. Vocalists auditioning for our Chamber Choir may be asked to sing  major/minor scales and modes.
