PEAK TO PEAK RECORD-BREAKING FOOD DRIVE

(Lafayette, CO) – Peak to Peak Charter School exceeded it’s goal of collecting 20,000 non-perishable food items in this year’s annual school food drive.  This beats last year’s total of 15,099 food goods donated by the school to area food banks.  This year the food was donated to Sister Carmen Community Center emergency food bank in Lafayette, which provides non-discriminatory emergency food assistance to residents of Lafayette, Louisville, Erie, and Superior.

The junior class once again sponsored this year’s food drive as part of the school’s ongoing community service emphasis, organizing, collecting, and counting the 20,003 food goods.  Brooke Osekavage, a food drive leader, was thrilled with the reaction of other students.  “It was so cool--more and more people came up to me asking if there was anything they could do or to tell me that they were going to go raise more donations.  Kids got really excited about ways that they could get involved.”  Students in the elementary, middle and high schools donated to the drive, which is the fourth consecutive year that the school has organized one.  “We’re very proud of the kids and the way the whole student body participates in our partnership with Sister Carmen,” said Executive Principal Tony Fontana.  “The kids have worked so hard and it means so much to them to be able to provide to families in the community.”
