Peak to Peak Procedure
for Non-returning Teachers
While it is
a primary focus at Peak to Peak to ensure that our excellent staff returns year
after year, the Peak to Peak community works hard to ensure a positive
experience for teachers who decide to leave our school. We realize that people’s situations change
over time and new opportunities may come up, and we wish departing staff the
best in their new endeavors. At the same
time, we work to ensure that our returning staff and students are protected from
rumors and uncertainty. Therefore the
BLT has designed the following procedure which, once approved, will be added to
our overall personnel procedures.
˛
Once
a teacher has made the decision to not return, he/she will communicate it to the
appropriate principal.
˛
The
principal will then communicate it to the board of directors, which has overall
personnel responsibility for the school, and HOD, which conducts the hiring and
organizational development activities on behalf of the school.
˛
Each
year, at the end of April, and again at the end of May, administration will
issue communication informing the community of each non-returning teacher.
§
The
non-returning teacher may write a two to three sentence entry about his/her
future plans to be included in this communication.
§
The
communication will be sent to the Peak to Peak community via group email and
the Speak to Peak newsletter.
§
Non-returning
teachers will not send out any other notifications.
Additional Guidelines
˛
Non-returning
teachers will maintain positive relations with students and the rest of the Peak
to Peak community through the end of their employment period.
˛
No
rumors should be spread. If a colleague
tells you of plans not to return please encourage that colleague to talk to
their principal.
˛
If
a teacher tells a board or HOD member of plans not to return the board or HOD
member will also encouraged the teacher to talk to the appropriate principal.
˛
All
teachers must follow the procedures for checking in school materials at the end
of the year.
Peak to
Peak’s research-based hiring procedures were based on best practices for hiring
and organizational development and have evolved over the years as conditions
have warranted and as the school has grown.
To ensure a pool of highly-qualified candidates, HOD will routinely post
jobs on the web. This may be done in
advance of specific knowledge of any particular opening, and no conclusion
about any particular person or position should be drawn from these postings.
