Small Student Cohorts
Student cohorts are a strategy being used to limit exposure to others, limit the size of gatherings, and minimize the number of people on campus at any given time.

In-Person Kindergarten in Phases 2-5
When our teacher teams gathered to discuss the best scenarios for learning, our youngest learners, particularly those who have not attended school before, were a primary focus. Our elementary teachers and school leaders have developed a plan that prioritizes in-person learning for our Kindergarten students, while still protecting health and safety by honoring the small student cohort model. During Phases 2 & 3, Kindergarten students will have in-person learning opportunities on a half-day schedule, with increasing time and consistency during Phase 3 as restrictions ease. During Phases 4-5, Kindergarten students will follow our regular full-day schedule.

In-person and Distance Learning in Grades 1-5:
Our teachers and school leaders have developed a plan for students in elementary grades 1-5. During Phase 3, students will have in-person learning opportunities on a full-day schedule, two days per week. The rest of the week will follow our distance learning model. Teachers will create detailed weekly work plans that will provide predictability for families across all content areas when we are in a distance learning scenario, including many changes from the spring such as opportunities for daily synchronous instructional sessions with teachers. During Phases 4-5, elementary students will follow a full-day schedule.

Spiraled Quarter Schedule in grades 6-12:
Our team of secondary teachers and school leaders have developed a “Spiraled Quarter” schedule to be implemented for the entire 20-21 school year. This schedule allows for the greatest degree of flexibility across the different phases and in the event of any short or long term school closures. Instead of our normal 8-period schedule, each quarter, students will have only 4 courses at a time. During Phase 3, students will be on campus for in-person learning for half days, with learning extensions for small groups during the second half of the day. During Phases 4 and 5, middle and high school students will be on campus for full-day, in-person learning on a block schedule. There will be no 1-8 days.

“Flex Day”
Peak to Peak will be implementing a “Flex Day” for a variety of purposes and opportunities for both staff and students. Peak to Peak will preserve this “Flex Day” for the K-12 for the entire 20-21 school year, regardless of the phase. There will be no Early Release Days or monthly Professional Development Days on the 20-21 school year calendar.
Importantly, the Flex Day is not a day off! Rather it is a day when students will be asked to attend Advisory sessions, complete work independently, access individual and small group teacher support, and engage in social/emotional learning (SEL) activities. Students will primarily be working off-campus, but may occasionally have on-campus opportunities during Phases 3-5, and based on the grade level. Student attendance on Flex Days will be compulsory, just as it would be for any of the distance learning and/or in-person learning days. This decision is driven by our priority to provide a stable and predictable schedule for the entire school year. Maintaining this Flex Day throughout the school year supports our priorities for social and emotional learning, mental health and wellness, teacher planning/collaboration, development of synchronous/asynchronous lessons, and it aligns well with the secondary quarter system..

Peak to Peak's phasing will mirror what BVSD has designed based on guidance from the local health departments. While it is our desire to align with BVSD on the designated phase, Peak to Peak may select a more restrictive phase based on individual needs and circumstances at our K-12 school.
How Peak to Peak willALIGN with BVSD:How Peak to Peak willDIFFER from BVSD:PHASE 1 All students will participate in a distance learning model. PHASE 2 Some students, in groups of 10 or fewer, will be designated for in-person learning on campus. All other students will learn at home. Peak to Peak’s kindergarten students will attend in-person learning for half-days, in cohorts of 10 or fewer students. PHASE 3 Across the K-12, cohorts of students will attend in-person learning on a significantly reduced schedule. In order to accomplish this, students will be divided into “A" and “B” cohorts in each course/classroom.
Peak to Peak’s elementary school will follow the district’s proposed schedule, where student cohorts will be on campus for in-person learning 2 full-days per week.
There will be a “Flex Day*” for a variety of purposes and opportunities for both staff and students. The day of the week for this “Flex Day” will align with BVSD, which is Monday.
Peak to Peak’s middle and high school will be implementing a spiraled quarter system for the entire 20-21 school year. In order to limit exposure across student cohorts to the greatest extent possible, students will take only four courses per quarter and will be divided into “A” and “B” cohorts in each course. During Phase 3, middle and high school students will be on campus for in-person learning for half days, with learning extensions for small groups during the second half of the day.
PHASE 4 Most students will return to the Peak to Peak campus for in-person learning. A “Flex Day” will be preserved for a variety of purposes and opportunities for both staff and students. Peak to Peak is preserving this “Flex Day” for the K-12 for the entire 20-21 School year, regardless of the phase.
Peak to Peak’s middle and high school will be implementing a spiraled quarter system for the entire 20-21 school year. During Phase 4, middle and high school students will be on campus for full-day, in-person learning on a block schedule, two days per week. Students will be learning remotely two days per week. Students will take only four courses per quarter. There will be no 1-8 days.
PHASE 5 All students will return to Peak to Peak without restrictions. A “Flex Day” will be preserved for a variety of purposes and opportunities for both staff and students. Peak to Peak is preserving this “Flex Day” for the K-12 for the entire 20-21 School year, regardless of the phase.
