FAQ's about Phases

What criteria are used to determine when the school will move to another phase?
Peak to Peak will use a variety of data to inform a decision to move from phase to phase throughout the duration of this health crisis. The following factors will be taken into consideration when making a decision: (1) the health and safety of our students and staff, (2) the community spread of the virus and its level of containment, (3) the number of our teachers and staff requesting on-site work exemptions and/or not returning to their jobs because of the health risks associated with current conditions, and (4) our ability to provide a high-quality, in-person experience for all of our students while observing all the health department guidelines.
Please find the additional links provided on our Data page of this website.

When will decisions about changes to the phase be made and how will we be notified?
Peak to Peak will notify the community via email whether or not a move to another phase is appropriate based on any changes in data, resources, or conditions. We will continue to keep the community updated with a schedule for decision-making. At any time, however, the public health department may determine that a school closure, partial closure, or move to a more restrictive phase is warranted. Should this occur, Peak to Peak will notify the community as soon as the information becomes available. It is likely that any move to Phase 1 will be immediate and communicated via emergency messaging much like a weather-related closure. Any communication from BVSD will be followed with an additional communication to the Peak to Peak community clarifying any differences for our school.

Why is Peak to Peak not following the district?
Peak to Peak’s decisions are based on multiple factors and considerations unique to our school, including (1) concern for the health and safety of our students and staff, (2) the community spread of the virus, (3) the number of our teachers and staff unable to be on campus, and (4) our ability to provide a high-quality, in-person experience for all of our students while observing all the health department guidelines.
We are focusing all of our time and energy on creating an engaging, meaningful and rigorous distance learning environment. We recognize that many students’ experience in distance learning the spring of 2020 was not ideal and we have learned from that experience. Over the summer and on their own time, more than 60 of our dedicated teachers and staff worked on task forces to reflect on the spring experience and to make specific recommendations for improvement to the instructional frameworks, content delivery, social-emotional supports and to making sure our programs are equitable for all students. We continue to act on those recommendations to establish clear systems and structures that will serve our students’ academic and social/emotional needs. This includes increased opportunities for synchronous learning and collaboration as well as meaningful assignments that are tied to clear learning goals. We continue to monitor student and family experiences through the fall 2020 semester.
We want nothing more than to return to in-person learning, and will be overjoyed when we are able to do this safely and with confidence. We have designed a plan for the spring 2021 semester that will allow for in-person learning for those families who choose this model. As soon as we are able to do so, we will implement this in-person learning plan.

FAQ's about enrollment
-
Can we keep our enrollment slot at Peak to Peak if we enroll our student at Boulder Universal for the 20-21 school year?
No. In order to enroll in Boulder Universal, students must give up their spots at Peak to Peak. Once a student leaves Peak to Peak, we must pull a student from the waitlist to fill the open seat because our school is dependent on full enrollment to operate. In addition, our total enrollment is capped by our charter contract. Thus, we are unable to automatically re-admit students who transfer to other schools because this would put us over that enrollment cap. Students who leave Peak to Peak must go through the open enrollment process for the following year in order to get back in, and reentry cannot be guaranteed.

FAQ's about learning materials, textbooks, school supplies, and Chromebooks
-
What should we do with the school supplies we purchased?
If you have already purchased school supplies, you may allow your students to use those supplies for their distance learning or you may choose to hold onto those materials until we are able to safely return to in-person learning on a broader scale. If you have not already purchased school supplies, we ask that you review the lists for supplies that your students might need in their at-home learning environment.

-
How do we get a Chromebook from the school?
It is our intention for every student K-12 to have a device available to them at home for remote learning. If you have not already done so, complete the Chromebook Inventory Needs Survey so that we can accommodate your students’ needs.
.
-
How do we get technical help and support with Chromebook problems?
You can get help from the BVSD IT Help Desk (720-561-4357) for most technical challenges with Chromebooks. If you have any questions that you believe are better addressed by the staff at Peak to Peak, please email p2p.office@bvsd.org and your email will be directed to the correct person.
.
-
If we are going to buy a Chromebook for our student, what specifications are recommended?
Any Chromebook model should be sufficient at the elementary level. At the secondary level, more robust models would certainly be beneficial, but are not required. Let your family budget be your guide.
