Contacts and Quarantines
Boulder Public Health as well as BVSD Health Services has given us updated protocols as it relates to COVID as of 2/22/22:
If positive, isolate at home:
- For 5 FULL days returning on day 6, day 1 is the day AFTER symptoms started. If no symptoms, day 1 is the day AFTER the test was administered
After 5 Full Days, Isolation can end if:
- Fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicines
- Symptoms have significantly improved and the student is feeling well enough to participate normally in class
- It is recommended to wear a well-fitted mask for the next 5 days when around others
A negative Covid test is NOT required to return after testing positive:
- It is possible to test positive an additional 5-7 days with an antigen test and up to 90 days with a PCR test
- The infectious period for Covid is still 10 days, however, the transmission rate declines after the first 5 days.
If exposed to a positive individual NOT IN the same household:
- Symptom-Free: Students that are exempt or up-to-date on their Covid vaccines are not required to quarantine, but they should wear a mask for 10 days. Up-to-date definition:
- Ages 12 and older and have received all recommended vaccine doses, including a third dose if more than 5 months from the second dose.
- Ages 5-11 years have completed a primary series of COVID-19 vaccines (2 doses)
- Students are exempt if they have had a positive COVID test within the past 90 days (beginning AFTER 12/19/21).
- Symptoms: If a student has ANY symptoms they should isolate for 5 full days returning on day 6, day 1 is the day AFTER symptoms started:
- test if possible, and continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
If exposed to a positive individual IN the same household:
- Symptom-Free: Students that are exempt or up-to-date on their Covid vaccines are not required to quarantine, but they should wear a mask for 10 days.
- Symptoms: Please contact the Health Room for guidance:
- test if possible, and continue to wear a mask around others for 5 additional days.
- Not up-to-date or not exempt and the positive individual is in the same household:
- If able to isolate: Should stay home for 5 full days returning on day 6, day 1 is the day AFTER the last contact with the positive individual.
- If unable to isolate: MUST stay home for 10 full days returning on day 11, day 1 is the day AFTER the positive individual’s symptoms started or test date if asymptomatic.
- Notify the Health Room if your student develops symptoms or tests positive.

Masks
Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) has rescinded the mask orders effective Friday, February 18th at 5:00 p.m. BVSD and Peak to Peak will align with this guidance and lift masking requirements. After 5:00 p.m., February 18th, masks will be recommended, but not required, for all persons aged 2 and older in our K-12 environment. This applies to all athletics, activities, and visitors on campus.
Because masks are still recommended, anyone who would like to continue to wear them will be supported by our staff. Our schools will continue to offer adult and child-sized masks to anyone who wants them.
For those in our community who are medically vulnerable and may have individual needs or concerns about this change, please let us know by contacting a member of the leadership team. Peak to Peak’s practices will align with BVSD’s individual processes for requesting individual accommodations.
