Annual Book Drive
It’s time for the annual LMC Book Drive! We are collecting donations for the library to keep the books up-to-date and relevant to our students. Please consider donating from the elementary or secondary wish lists on Amazon.com. (See attached flyer for more info.) These lists were curated by our P2P librarians who know what is needed. The annual Book Drive is our only library fundraiser and your help is extremely important. We thank you in advance for your participation!

Executive Directors' Update
Dear Families,
Thanks so much to all who were able to join us for the Homecoming tailgate party on Thursday evening. What fun it was to celebrate with our community!
Town Halls: We wanted to let you know that the first of three planned “town halls” will happen on Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 9-10am. We will use these town halls to share information with the community on key strategic initiatives happening at the school in alignment with our strategic plan. If time allows, we will take questions from the audience pertaining to the topics discussed at the town hall. We will also solicit feedback from the community via a survey after the event. Families can attend town halls in person, but we will also offer a virtual option and make a recording available afterwards.
At this first town hall, Jennie Klein will share information on 2022-23 academic outcomes as well and information related to our K-12 Executive Function Initiative. Jennifer Douglas will share a high level overview of the 2023-24 budget and update the community on some exciting developments pertaining to our facilities.
Future town halls will be held on January 23, 2024 from 4:30 - 5:30pm and on March 13, 2024 from 6 to 7pm. We have intentionally scheduled the town halls at different times of day to ensure that parents/guardians with different work schedules and other commitments can attend; again, all will be recorded and available virtually both during and after the event.
As always, we are open and available for questions, concerns, or feedback from the community, so please reach out. Thanks for your partnership in serving our wonderful Peak to Peak students!
Jennie Klein, Executive Director of Education
Jennifer Douglas, Executive Director of Operations

Food Waste in Cafeteria
Hello families! This year every public school student is eligible for free lunch under Colorado's Healthy Meals for All (Prop FF in 2022). As exciting as this opportunity is for students and families, staff has noticed a huge increase in food waste from our cafeteria. We have observed that some students are getting free lunches, even if they brought their own, to receive a free Izze drink. The rest of the lunch is discarded in the trash. If you are willing, please join us in encouraging kids to minimize food waste by taking the following steps:1- Talk to your kids about only taking a free lunch if they intend to eat the meal to avoid food waste.2- Place unwanted pre-packaged items (packaged veggies, fruits, Craisins) in the donation/reuse boxes, located in the cafeteria across from the registers. I will donate these items. Thanks for your cooperation! If you have any questions, comments or ideas, please reach out!Monika Bunting -

Reminder: Special Middle School Programming in October
This information was included in a previous Digest article.
Dear Middle School Families and Students,
Thank you for your energy, support and partnership last month as we launched our community of over 400 middle schoolers into the 2023-24 academic year! Our team is in the thick of preparations for the overnight trip to the Y of the Rockies for all 6th graders on Tuesday, September 26th to Thursday, September 28th; we are also designing unique field trip experiences for our 7th and 8th graders, separately, in the month of October. These are experiences we intentionally create for all students in an effort to consistently nurture a celebratory, inclusive and connective culture in our middle school.
In addition, each October, our 8th graders take the PSAT 8 as part of our instructional preparation for their high school career, and also as a college readiness benchmark (Key Performance Indicator #3) under our school’s strategic plan.
Please read below for special program information that may apply to your student(s) on Tuesday, October 3rd and Monday, October 16th.
Tuesday, October 3rd
6th grade: Full Day of Classes Students and the 6th grade staff will have recently returned from the Y of the Rockies overnight trip. Classes and lunch for 6th graders will run as usual on this day.
7th grade: Team-Building Field Trip Students will participate in an all-day outdoor field trip to CU Boulder’s Challenge Course at Will Vill, where they will engage in teamwork, problem solving and healthy risk-taking through high- and low-ropes course challenges and House competitions. Please make sure your student:
-
arrives no later than 7:45am and reports to the Auditeria for a prompt departure.
-
has a plan for pick up along Puma drive upon return at 4:00pm.
-
brings a sack lunch, water bottle and dresses for the weather.
A communication with required forms and the Challenge Course waiver will be sent directly to 7th grade students and families via email next week. Access to the communication can also be found here. If you have any questions, please reach out to the 7th grade team leaders, Jenny Kirchner (jenny.kirchner@bvsd.org) and Erin Manzanares (erin.manzanares@bvsd.org).
8th grade: PSAT Like last year, the PSAT 8 will be a digital assessment. This is in preparation for the nationwide shift to digital assessment at the high school level over the next few years. Please make sure your student:
-
Arrives no later than 7:45am to ensure they have enough time to find their testing room and all students can start on time.
-
Brings their fully charged BVSD device. Students should not bring a smartphone or smart watch. If these cannot be left in a locker, students will need to power them off and turn them into the test proctor for the duration of the test.
-
Has a plan for pick up at the dismissal time of 12:00pm, except for those testing with extended time. Parents/guardians with students testing longer will receive an email with additional information.
Lunch will not be served to 8th graders on this day. If you have any questions, please reach out to James Fuller (james.fuller@bvsd.org).
Monday, October 16th
8th grade: Legacy Day 8th graders will participate in on- and off-campus activities to contribute to their middle school legacy and build team spirit within the Class of 2028. Students will create a legacy art installation followed by a walk to Lamont Does Park for a picnic lunch. After lunch, students will continue to Bounce Empire for an afternoon of team-building challenges. Students will then walk back to campus for an on-time release at 3:10pm. A communication with more details and required forms will be sent directly to 8th grade students and families in the next couple of weeks.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support,
Clara Quinlan and Victoria Hankey | Middle School Principal and Assistant Principal
