Free Breakfast and Lunch for All
Food Services is excited to announce we will be offering FREE breakfasts and FREE lunches this year to ALL students 18 years and younger due to the passing of the Healthy School Meals for All ballot initiative that passed in November 2023. We will be using the serving lines to serve students and the students will need to walk through the lines to the cashiers' stations and enter their ID# so the reimbursable meal can be captured and reported.
A reimbursable breakfast consists of either one main item, such as a muffin, bagel, hot meal, yogurt parfait, cereal/bars (2), etc. along with a fruit or juice. Milk is optional.
For lunch, a meal consists of either the hot meal, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cheese sandwiches, or sub sandwiches (secondary only). The lunch must include either a fruit and/or a vegetable. Milk is optional. Elementary school "Puma Patch" and full salad bars will be operational. A large salad, along with a large soup, can be considered a reimbursable meal, and a side salad constitutes a vegetable.

Changes in Food Services
1. There will be no negative charging to accounts. In order to purchase a second meal (secondary only) or a la carte items, money must be in your student's lunch account. If there is no money to cover a charge, the student will be asked to return the unpaid items.
2. A la carte items are not covered in the free breakfast and free lunch program.
3. For secondary only - All chips, cookies, and bars will be sold from the concession stand rather than the serving lines. With the number of meals being served to all students, we are trying to streamline the process of checking out for meals only and remove the a la carte racks to another location to keep the lines moving quickly.
4. For secondary only - In attempts to keep the lines moving quickly, we have purchased scanners to retrieve student accounts. The student will be required to show their student badge which has their barcode. The scanner will be able to retrieve the accounts rather than the students entering ID# on a keypad. Please remind your student to have their ID badges ready to show the cashiers so their meal can be processed quickly!!

Free and Reduced Lunch/Fee Waivers
Families who wish to have their school fees waived/reduced will need to complete the Free and Reduced Lunch Application/Fee Waiver Application and complete the Release to Share information before October 1. Upon qualifying, your student's required student fees and athletic fees will be adjusted. Please contact Elizabeth Begley with questions about these forms or Amy Skinner with questions about your student's fees.

Traffic and Parking Plan
Please review this K-12 traffic plan and this campus map which highlight the traffic flow for daily drop-off and pick-up of students. For the first few weeks of school, traffic on campus will undoubtedly be heavy and congested, so please be patient and considerate. Please follow the guidelines to allow for a safer and more pleasant experience. Also, keep in mind that traffic will improve in a few weeks as carpools get established and people stagger the times that they arrive. Please note that Puma Drive is a one-way entrance at all times, and Canterbury Drive is a one-way exit at all times. Also, please DO NOT park on the side streets off Spaulding Street. These are private drives and we want to respect our neighbors.

Annual Data Update (ADU) Change
Due to BVSD’s transition to a new enrollment software, families are not required to complete their Annual Data Update (ADU) via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal at the beginning of the 2023-24 school year. BVSD has already re-enrolled your student into the current grade at their school- no action is needed by parents. If your student has any updated health needs or concerns, or if you need to submit an immunization record, please contact the Peak to Peak Health Room. Families have the capability to change contact information or addresses in their Infinite Campus Parent Portal account at any time during the year.

Schedule Change Requests
Beginning 8/8, if Middle School students find an error in their schedule, they can submit a schedule change request through a Google Form found here: P2P MS 23-24 Schedule Change Request. Please note, counselors will not make schedule changes for a change of teacher or period request as the classes have been balanced carefully.
Only students with a BVSD email address can complete and submit this form. Before doing so, students must first determine availability in the classes they wish to add, using this document: MS Course Availability. This document will be updated periodically, but it is not 'live' and numbers will change quickly, so a course you think has one seat left, may not actually have any!
Please do not email your counselor to change your schedule. You must use the Google Form once it’s opened. Fees for all courses have already been assessed in IC, so without this electronic trail, the bookkeeper is unable to track and change fees.
Once students have submitted a schedule change request, we ask for your patience as counselors need time to work through all the requests as they, along with the teaching staff, will be in Professional Development meetings throughout the day during the week of 8/7-8/11. Please do not expect an email response from counselors. If we can accommodate your request it will be reflected in IC, so be sure to check your schedule regularly (beginning 8/8) to determine if the change took effect. Thank you for your understanding.

Freshman Orientation Day
The first day of school for all 9th graders is Monday, August 14, from 8-11:30 AM.
Please help your student arrive by 7:55 as we will start right at 8 AM. You can drop your student off and pick them up (at 11:30 AM) on the far east side of the school near the cafeteria. This will help us avoid confusion with our 6th grade students also arriving.
Students do not need to bring anything, in fact, it is better if they don't! We will be very busy and active so help them dress and plan accordingly.
-
9th Grade Overnight Field Trip
All 9th grade students will be attending a 2-night, 3-day field trip to La Foret Retreat Center October 9-11. Please make sure to pick up permission forms at registration (or the front office if you will not be able to make registration). Please note- October 9th is a PD day but 9th graders DO have school. We are still looking for a few more chaperones for this event. If you are interested, please email Mary Campbell at mary.campbell@bvsd.org.

Adult Volunteer Information
We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year. If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year! Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back. If you do not have a photo ID card please stop by the Volunteer Station at registration or contact the office staff. Please contact Tracey Sutton at tracey.sutton@bvsd.org or 303-453-4601 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure. Here is a link to our volunteer information and forms: Volunteer Information
Volunteer training is online. Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering. If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again. It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols. Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information. It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Seeking Volunteers for High School Leadership Course
We are currently seeking 18-20 mentors (and a few guest speakers) for our Leadership Development class. This class aims to help our students grow as leaders, pre-professionals, thinkers and overall humans. Our units of study focus on:
- defining leadership and personal/organizational values
- organizational culture/team building
- project/program development and evaluation
- public speaking/communication and listening strategies
- ethical obligations/behavior of leaders
If you are interested in mentoring, ideally you would be willing to:
- Meet once a month with your mentee for 30 minutes (virtual or in person) during our class time of 7:55-9:25.
- In your meeting times, provide feedback relating to their leadership initiatives, leadership philosophy and evidence-based portfolios.
- Provide examples of any personal leadership lessons you have learned and/or examples of moments of leadership you have demonstrated or observed from others.
- Discuss any other leadership-related topics, as they organically arise from your conversations.
If you are interested in guest presenting:
- The timing would also be from 7:55-9:25 on class days.
- Email your interest and topic/s you could present to our students, based on the above units of study.
Please reach out to carla.flanhofer@bvsd.org if you are interested in either opportunity. Thanks so much for considering supporting and helping to develop our high school leaders.
