Scholastic Fencing League
The Scholastic Fencing League will offer an after-school fencing program at Peak to Peak Charter School during the 2018/19 school year.
What is the Scholastic Fencing League?
Our mission is to introduce the Olympic sport of fencing to students, grades 1st and up in a safe and fun environment, while promoting the values of character, honor, integrity, strategy and athleticism.
How Does Our Program Work?
Fencing is a sport involving quick thinking, agility, poise and speed. This unique sport develops self-discipline, respect, maturity and good sportsmanship, qualities that carry through to our everyday lives. Fencers learn to solve problems, cope with adversity and take what comes with grace, through their individual and team participation. It is a tradition to salute before a fencing competition and shake hands afterwards. It is one of the few sports that evens the playing field between size, age, sexes, ethnicity and personality. Our beginner class offers instruction on footwork, blade work, tactics and strategy. It includes an introduction to the history of fencing, weapons, target areas and fencing technique. Progressive classes build on previous experience and curriculum is developed for progressing skill levels.
Your School will hold fencing classes for students in grades 1st and up in the South Gym, Fridays from 3:10 to 4:10 PM. Practice will start on September 21st.
The cost for the 8-week session, once per week, is $170. Class space is limited to 20 students.
All necessary equipment (glove, mask, jacket, and sabre) will be provided. Students should wear athletic shoes and comfortable athletic clothing, such as T-shirts and warm-up or sweatpants.
Registrations are accepted on a first come - first serve basis. Please register your child at scholasticfencingleague.com. If you have any questions about the program, please contact me at 814-777-0423.
I hope to see your child at the after-school fencing class.
