Board Update
Hello Peak to Peak Community. As a board we have decided to send out a couple of quick bullet points in the Friday digest following our board meetings going forward to recap what we are working on as a board. It is a work in progress and we will be adjusting the information depending on the needs and wants of the community.Board Corner
1. Strategic Discussion As a board we had a strategic discussion around our mission as a school. We agreed as a board that we uphold Excellence and Equity, not as competing interests but as complimentary ideas. We were asked, what does it look like to ensure an equitable, rigorous, mission aligned educational experience for all students at Peak to Peak? How do we support this goal as a school and what resources will we need to accomplish that?
2. Staff Culture We talked about what a difficult time it is to be an educator in our current climate and how lucky we are as a school to have the staff we have. One of the amazing things about Peak to Peak is our staff and the culture they have created and get to work in. How do we continue to maintain that, as well as use it as an asset for our HOD team?3. Executive Director of Education and Executive Director of Operations 360 Review Jennie and Jen would like to receive a comprehensive review on their work at Peak to Peak at the end of the year, how does the board feel about their work, how do their peers feel about their work, and how does the community feel about their work. We are trying to figure out how we can properly give these assessments and what they will look like in the future. -

We truly couldn’t make it any day without their care and concern for our students. 6th Grade GT Universal Screener: Community Notice
Dear 6th grade students and families,
The Colorado Department of Education’s (CDE) Office of Gifted Education has encouraged school districts to implement a universal screening assessment in 2nd and 6th grades. For several years now, Peak to Peak Charter School, in alignment with BVSD, has been administering a universal ability screener in 2nd grade. Moving forward, BVSD will be adding a universal ability screener at the 6th grade level.
The term “universal screening” means the systematic assessment of all students within a grade level. The universal ability screener allows for students to show their ability and potential in areas such as reasoning, perception, creativity, and problem solving. The universal ability screener is not just for the specific purpose of identifying highly capable or gifted students. Data collected through this screener can provide information to support instructional planning for all students. The data can also allow for decisions about referrals for further testing for possible gifted (GT) identification. Those students who qualify for further testing to determine if they meet the criteria for GT identification and services in BVSD will be contacted by the Peak to Peak’s Appropriate Learning Services Teacher, Tracy Cloninger.
The universal screener assessments are afforded through a grant from CDE. The universal ability screener at the 6th grade level is an online nonverbal cognitive ability test, takes approximately 30 minutes, and will be administered in your child’s English 1 class on Thursday, September 21st or Friday, September 22nd. Students who have previously met criteria for a GT identification in BVSD will not be taking the assessment. If you are interested in opting out your student for the universal ability screening, please notify Tracy Cloninger by filling out this form by Monday, September 18th. Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Sincerely,
Clara Quinlan, Middle School Principal
Tracy Cloninger, Appropriate Learning Services Teacher
