Visitor Policies and Protocols

We have received questions from some members of our community about our policies and procedures regarding visitors on campus, including law enforcement. Ensuring the safety, privacy, and well-being of our students is always our top priority at Peak to Peak. We want to reaffirm that our school follows clear, documented policies and protocols whenever a visitor, including law enforcement officers, arrives on campus.

Visitor Management Procedures

Peak to Peak follows policy KI-R-1 to ensure a secure learning environment.

Key protocols include:

  • Controlled Access: All exterior doors remain locked during the school day, with visitor entry restricted to main entrances.
  • Identification Verification: All visitors, including district staff, volunteers, community members, and law enforcement officers, must check in at the front desk and provide identification. Parents/guardians once verified through Infinite Campus are immediately admitted.
  • Visitor Badges: All admitted visitors must wear a school-issued badge while on campus. Any unbadged individuals will be directed to the main office.
  • Monitoring & Compliance: School staff maintain visitor logs, enforce sign-in/out procedures, and ensure compliance with security measures, including preventing unauthorized access to school buildings.

Law Enforcement Request: Student Access

If a law enforcement officer seeks to engage with a student on campus, Peak to Peak follows procedures in alignment with police as well as Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) guidance:

  • Student Privacy Protections: Any request for student, family, or school district information must comply with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Verification & Parental Notification:
    • A Peak to Peak administrator takes the lead in any interactions with law enforcement.
    • The officer’s credentials and legal authority will be verified.
    • BVSD Safety and Security will be notified.
    • Parents/guardians will be notified before interacting with a student unless prohibited by law.

These established protocols help protect student safety, ensure compliance with legal requirements, and minimize disruptions to the learning environment. If you have any questions regarding these procedures, please feel free to reach out.
