Food Services Update

Dear Peak to Peak Families,

We wanted to provide some updates on the school’s food service program for the 2025-26 school year. In response to feedback from both families and students, as well as changing nutritional requirements from the USDA (the governing entity for the National School Lunch Program), we are making some adjustments to the program. Specific planned changes are as follows:

  • Izzes and Craisins will not be served at breakfast or during the secondary morning passing period. Izzes will only be offered at lunch for secondary students (6th - 12th grade) as an a la carte item that must be purchased. They will no longer be an included item for secondary students participating in Healthy Meals for All.
  • Under USDA breakfast regulations, fruit must be included in a meal to qualify for a free breakfast meal. Because we will no longer be serving Izzes or Craisins, our goal is to provide fresh whole fruit with some additional lower sugar options (e.g. Treetop dried apple slices).
  • We will continue to serve pizza every other Wednesday, but we will no longer offer Domino's Smart Slice option due to costs and lack of popularity.  We will be offering another option of pizza through our supplier that the students seem to enjoy.
  • We will be offering higher protein breakfast options for our hot meal.

In addition, students will be organizing a Healthy Meal Options Campaign, designed to encourage students to make healthy choices such as choosing white milk, fresh fruit, and items from the salad bar.

We appreciate your continued support of our program and thank you for trusting us to ensure that your student’s nutritional needs are being met! If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Food Service Program Manager Elizabeth Reynolds (elizabeth.reynolds@bvsd.org), Kitchen Manager Paula Greenspan (paula.greenspan@bvsd.org), or Executive Director of Operations Jennifer Douglas (jennifer.douglas@bvsd.org).
