Equity Committee

The Equity Committee is open to all members of the Peak to Peak community.

Purpose

Peak to Peak is a K-12 charter public school created by parents to provide outstanding scholarship for all students that fosters the development of educated, active, and responsible community members. To ensure academic excellence, we believe in challenging each student to achieve their full potential, and we are committed to creating a responsive school culture and community where students feel a clear sense of belonging. Peak to Peak understands that valuing scholarship, challenge, and community means we must, at our core, value inclusion, equity, and diversity, in authentic and ongoing ways. In support of the school’s vision, mission and strategic plan, Peak to Peak must strive to be an anti-oppressive school where all students and staff can see, respond to, and redress inequities.

The Equity Committee will support the development, advancement, and implementation of inclusive policies, practices, and ideas in our K-12 community, as described in the school’s Equity and Inclusion statement. The Equity Committee is committed to dismantling the institutional barriers faced by students, staff, and the broader Peak to Peak community that contribute to pervasive disparate educational and professional experiences and outcomes within our school systems.

Overview

The Committee is open to all and comprised of parents, community members, teachers, staff, and/or other members of the administration. Meetings are held once per month, from September through May.  Officers of the Committee are elected at the May meeting each year and serve from June 1st to May 31st.

The role of the committee is to promote equity and inclusion for all within our K-12 school by examining and making recommendations related to the issues of institutional diversity, equity and inclusion. This includes monitoring progress toward strategic plan initiatives related to equity in climate and culture, teaching and learning, family and community engagement, governance, policies, and human resource development. As well as to educate and engage members of our community (students/parents/guardians, employees, board members, volunteers, etc.) about the need for equity work, our progress toward our strategic plan goals, and the nuanced ways in which it must remain a focus and an expectation for the foreseeable future.
