Overview

Mission Statement

In support of the Peak to Peak Mission and Vision, the Peak to Peak Library Media Learning Center will:

• Empower students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users and creators of information
• Provide broad access to information using a variety of tools and formats
• Serve as a safe and comfortable space for learning and exploring ideas
• Inspire students to attain their individual academic goals and promote lifelong learning
• Encourage pursuit of creative passions and interests
• Collaborate with staff as an integral partner to provide instruction of essential information literacy skills
   

 

Program Goals

It is the belief of the Peak to Peak library media center program that in order for students to achieve their full potential as active participants in our increasingly complex and technologically driven society they must meet or exceed the standards and benchmarks for 21st Century Learners. In order to do so they must:

• think rationally and creatively
• solve problems individually and collaboratively
• access, evaluate and manage information
• communicate effectively

Therefore it is the primary goal of the library media center program to ensure that students and staff are effective users of ideas and information. Achievement of this goal requires:

• Intellectual and physical access to materials in all formats, both remotely and at school.
• Instruction which stimulates interest in reading and develops competence in accessing, evaluating, creating, and managing information and ideas.
• Integration of the library media program into the curriculum through the cooperative efforts of library media specialists and classroom teachers.
• Physical access to information by providing a carefully selected, systematically organized, up-to-date collection of materials on topics which reflect the information needs of students and faculty.
• Access to contemporary technologies, software, and telecommunications.
• Provision of leadership, instruction, and consulting assistance in the use of instructional and informational technology.
• Provision of resources and activities that contribute to lifelong learning, while accommodating a wide range of differences in teaching and learning styles and in instructional methods, interests, and capacities.
• Provision of a facility that functions as the information hub of the school.
• Provision of resources and learning activities that represent a diversity of experiences, opinions, and social and cultural perspectives, supporting the concept that intellectual freedom and access to information are prerequisite to effective and responsible citizenship in a democracy.
