Identification Process

Referral for GT Consideration

Teachers, families, or students can initiate a referral for a student to be considered for GT (Gifted and Talented) status. Once referred, the process usually takes 12 weeks. Please complete the nomination form to initiate this process.

Body of Evidence Collection
GT Coordinators gather a comprehensive body of evidence, which includes:

  • Achievement data
  • Cognitive ability testing
  • Observational inventories

Gifted & Talented Determination by BVSD GT Office

  • The collected evidence is sent to the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) GT office for evaluation.
  • Requirements for GT identification include at least three data points in the 95th percentile or higher on nationally normed assessments.

Notification of Determination

  • The BVSD GT office communicates their decision to the Peak to Peak GT Coordinators.
  • Possible outcomes include:
    • Student identified as GT
    • Student placed on a monitor list for 12 months
    • Student identified as a Universal Learner

Communication and Planning

  • GT Coordinators inform families and teachers of the determination.
  • For students identified as GT, an Advanced Learning Plan is established to support their educational needs.
  • High achieving or creative students  not identified for Gifted and Talented services needs are met through differentiated instruction in  grade level classrooms.
