Peak to Peak Elementary School’s rigorous curriculum focuses on standards-based learning and uses the nationally recognized Core Knowledge Sequence as the basis for its content in Social Studies and Science. Our literature-based reading program emphasizes phonics, phonemic awareness and extensive practice which builds fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. Our math program emphasizes computation and problem-solving. Peak to Peak believes that students should be placed according to their abilities rather than by strict age levels, so students are ability-grouped in math and reading classes. Teachers also use clustering and differentiation to meet all students’ needs.

Homeroom Placement Input Form
Homeroom Placement Input Form(current grades Kindergarten-4th grade) Soon, our staff will begin creating homeroom lists for next year. It is our goal at Peak to Peak to balance homeroom classes based on students’ academic, behavioral, and social strengths and needs. Decisions regarding student room assignments will be made collaboratively among the current teachers, special program teachers, and administration. Current needs, special factors, and previous situations are taken into account to best inform class placement for the following year. Lists are created, revised, and reviewed multiple times before they are finalized in August. This process is taken very seriously by staff members, and an extensive amount of time is spent trying to create favorable outcomes for students and teachers in the following year.If you would like to provide input for your child's homeroom class placement, please complete this input form by Friday, April 5, 2024. -
Elementary Cell Phone Policy
Elementary School Cell Phone Policy: Per our Student Handbook (page 22), elementary students may only use their cell phones and devices before and after school. The baseline expectation is that electronic devices are turned off and put away from 7:50 a.m.-3:05 p.m. Students may wear smartwatches with the approval of a parent or guardian; however, a student may not use the device for calling, texting, or other communication functions during school hours.
Please note: cell phones should not be out or in use by elementary students who are eating breakfast in the cafeteria or who are on the blacktop with peers before school. For the safety and privacy of all students, students should not use a cell phone to take pictures at school at any time, nor should they allow other students to look at or use their cell phones.
If a student does not meet the expectations for appropriate technology use, staff may direct the student to turn off the device and store it in the student’s bag or cubbie/ locker. If distractions persist, staff may require the student to store the device in the principal’s office until the end of the day.
Other resources/information you may find helpful:
-
Across our district and state, we are seeing an increase in mental health concerns, bullying, and antisocial behavior attributed to smartphone usage and social media access - we encourage you to be vigilant and an active partner in your child’s use of technology.
-
We also frequently see students looking over the shoulder of a peer with a cell phone. Even if your child does not have a phone, iPad, or a computer with internet and social media access, they likely have access to that content via their peers.
-
Consider aligning with the sentiments described in the Wait Until 8th Pledge.
This presentation, Reflections on Technology, was presented to families at a past Peak to Peak parent/guardian educational event about safe internet and social media use and includes helpful resources for home.
