April: Getting a Head Start

April: Getting a Head Start

This month’s newsletter includes information to help you get a head start on paperwork that will need to be submitted before your student starts school in August. Some of this will be included in the registration emails sent during the summer, but we know some families like to plan ahead so we are providing it here as well.

Volunteering:

For over 20 years, the generous contributions of our community members’ time and talents have been an important cornerstone of Peak to Peak's success. We encourage all community members to participate in our many K-12 volunteer opportunities!

In order to volunteer with students, whether in a classroom or on a field trip, you must become an approved Peak to Peak volunteer. Once approved, you can volunteer at Peak to Peak until your youngest Puma graduates. The volunteer approval process includes a background check and fingerprinting and takes a minimum of 2 weeks for the school to receive your results, so we strongly encourage our families to complete the process as soon as possible. If you wait until you learn about a field trip, you may not be able to complete the process in time to participate! Print the volunteer paperwork (or pick up a copy from the Main Office) to get started on the process! (Descargue e imprima los documentos en Español.)

We also invite you to join The Peak to Peak Volunteer Facebook Group (“Puma Pete’s Community Group”) if you are interested in learning about upcoming opportunities and ways to participate.

Transportation Options:

  • Morning Bus Registration: If you are interested in participating in morning bus service for next school year, please complete the Morning-Only Bus Registration. Based on family interest and bus driver staffing, we are able to offer 2 routes in Louisville/Superior and Erie for 2025-26. If you have more than one student, please complete registration for each student. You will hear from the Transportation Coordinator by April 30th to confirm that your student(s) are on a morning route. If you haven't received confirmation by the 30th, your student was placed on the waitlist. If you have questions, reach out to Tracey Sutton, tracey.sutton@bvsd.org
  • Carpool Database: Peak to Peak uses a database called "WaytoGo." All of our families are included, however, there is an option to opt out. By being included, you are allowing "WaytoGo" to share your information with other Peak to Peak families that live near you for purposes of carpooling, playdates, last-minute rides, or other coordination. There is no obligation to carpool; it is for informational purposes only. If you choose to opt out of the database for the 25-26 school year, please fill out the WaytoGo SchoolPool Opt-out form by Tuesday May 13, 2025.
  • Public Transportation: There is an RTD bus stop on the west end of campus near the intersection of Merlin Drive and Spaulding Street. Please visit the RTD website for routes and information.

Sport Physicals:

Sports physicals are required for athletic participation. A new physical is required every year for students participating in athletics. For any secondary student (6th-12th grade) planning to participate in athletics in the upcoming school year, please complete this CHSAA form (page 4) and submit it either in person at registration, or send a digital copy to valerie.edwards@bvsd.org (preferred).

Note: New for the 2025-26 school year, we cannot accept documentation of physicals from physicians on any form except the one provided here.

Health Room Policies:

The Peak to Peak Health room is dedicated to the care and needs of your student during the school day. BVSD requires students to be vaccinated against many of the diseases vaccines can prevent, unless a Certificate of Exemption is filed. Visit the Immunizations page for a list of K-12 school-required Immunizations and forms.

The Peak to Peak Health room is required to follow the BVSD Medications In School Guidelines. Medications in school are not allowed without proper documentation, including the use of inhalers and epi-pens. Please visit our Medications in School page for more information and required forms.

Technology:

  • Chromebooks & 1 to Web: Peak to Peak uses BVSD-managed chromebooks to enhance learning and access to resources. Student access and use of devices varies based on grade. In K-4 classrooms, devices are used on a very limited basis to teach keyboarding and occasionally to access learning tools. Devices are kept in the classroom and are never taken home; students are always supervised when using a device. Beginning in 5th grade, students are assigned a personal BVSD-managed chromebook, as part of BVSD’s 1:Web program, which they can take home each day. Students are personally responsible for this device for 4 years, and BVSD provides tech support, including repairs, for free or low-cost. In 9th grade, all students receive a new device to use for the duration of high school. There is a low annual fee for the 1:Web program, which covers the cost of the device over 4 years. Because BVSD purchases devices for the entire school district, students are able to receive a device at a significantly discounted rate than if they were to purchase it themselves.
  • IT Support: BVSD provides IT support for student devices, as well as assisting with student account issues. Basic troubleshooting steps and IT contact information can be found on our website.
  • Go Guardian: Go Guardian is an extension that is added to all BVSD student accounts. This software provides 24 hour filtering on BVSD devices to block inappropriate sites from being access on student devices.
  • Digital Citizenship, Data Privacy, and Technology Resources for Parents: BVSD has compiled a number of resources on this topic to support parents with online safety both at home and at school.

Parent/Guardian Account Information

Parents/Guardians will have separate logins and accounts for each of the following online tools:

  • Infinite Campus
  • Peak to Peak Website
  • RevTrak (for student fees)
  • My Payments Plus (for school lunches)

We recommend that you establish a system for tracking your usernames and passwords for each of these five accounts as they will likely be different for each online tool. Parents/Guardians are not able to use the Single Sign On (SSO) that students use.

  • Infinite Campus (IC) is a web-based student information system and data warehouse used by all schools in the Boulder Valley School District. Parents can access student schedules, grades, attendance records, and other reports through this system. As your new student's information is loaded into IC and the new school year is launched, you will receive an activation email to initiate your account. The email will contain an activation code that you will enter the first time you enter IC. Some of you may have already received this email. If not, you should receive it before registration in August. The email will be sent to the email address you provided to the registrar. If you have students in your family that have already been attending Peak to Peak and your new student is a sibling, you have probably already established your IC account. In this case, your new student's information will be added to your existing account. As we approach the new school year in August, if you have not received an activation code or if you need assistance with accessing your IC account, please reach out to the front office. Please wait until August when we are able to help you. There is a link to IC for parents on the homepage of the Peak to Peak website.
  • RevTrak and My Payments Plus: You will create your RevTrak and My Payments Plus accounts as part of the registration process.
