Attendance Office

We want to highlight the role that consistent attendance plays in your child’s academic success. Research shows that regular attendance is an integral part of academic performance and socio-emotional well-being. When students are present and engaged, they are more likely to feel a sense of belonging and confidence in their school experience. Below are a few important details that we hope you follow to ensure your student gets the most out of each school day.

Arrivals

  • The cafeteria opens at 7:30 am (8:30 on Wednesdays) for all K-12 students. Elementary playground supervision begins at 7:40 am (8:40 on Wednesdays). Please do not drop your student off before supervision begins.
    • Parents who wish to accompany their child to breakfast in the Cafeteria must wear a volunteer badge or check in at the Main Office.
  • Elementary students arriving late must be checked in at the front office by a parent/guardian.
  • Secondary students are marked tardy beginning 5 minutes after the first bell.
  • If a student has a planned appointment that you know will make them late, you can use the Report an Absence Form on the website. When the student is checked in, the absence will be updated to reflect the late arrival.

Early Dismissals & Appointments

  • If you are picking your student up early, please bring your state-issued photo ID and allow enough time for the office staff to contact the teacher and for your student to pack up their items. We cannot release a student from class until the parent/guardian has arrived in the Office and provided their ID.
    • For student drivers, parents can excuse their child for early dismissal via email, but students must still check out at the front office or HUB before leaving campus.
  • To minimize classroom disruptions, please avoid scheduling pick-ups during lunch, recess, PE, flextime, and other Specials. (While lunch is a great time to schedule an appointment to avoid class impacts, we recommend picking them up before lunch starts as students can be difficult to locate when they are in the cafeteria or gym with 100+ other students.) We recommend avoiding the following times for dismissal:
    • Elementary: 10:20-11:35
    • Middle School: 11:45-12:45
    • High School: 12:45-2:00
  • We ask that you do not request an early dismissal after 2:45. The Office manages numerous early dismissals at the end of the day for School Athletics and Activities and often cannot accommodate the additional requests at this time. We respectfully ask that you plan to collect your student before 2:45, or wait until the final bell.
  • If you are picking up your child after a field trip, please wait until the students have returned to class and are accounted for before checking them out. (Again, please keep the early dismissal cutoff time in mind– 2:45.)

Absences

  • Report an absence using any of these methods:
  • Prearranged absences (3-10 days): Submit a Prearranged Absence Form at least one week before your student's planned absence.
  • Absences longer than 10 days require a pre-authorized Leave of Absence Agreement with the administration and may require temporary withdrawal. Please work with level principal(s) prior to planning travel.
  • Partial absences occur when an elementary student arrives more than 60 minutes after the start of school or departs more than 60 minutes before the end of school. For secondary students, a partial absence occurs when a student enters class more than 10 minutes after class starts or departs more than 10 minutes before the end of class.

Illness

  • If a student feels sick at school, they must visit the health room before leaving. This is true for all students, regardless of age, and regardless of symptoms. This is important so that our Health Room can be aware of any increase in contagious illnesses and provide care and support to all students.
