Celebrating a Fantastic Year at Peak to Peak

Dear Peak to Peak Families,

Congratulations on finishing the 2018-19 school year in a strong way! What an incredible school year we have had at Peak to Peak. Before we breathe a huge sigh of relief and launch into summer break, it is fitting to take a moment or two to reflect on how far we have come and where we are headed.

This year marked the first full school year since we implemented our new strategic plan, wherein our focus on Innovation is reflected in dynamic aspirational goals, strategies, and initiatives, and our continued focus on Excellence is demonstrated in 18 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): high-level, quantifiable measurements of the school’s critical success factors. I would like to highlight just a few accomplishments in our key innovation areas this year:

  • Inspiring Learning -- An expanded number of extended trips to national and international locations are now available for our students to exciting locations such as Calwood (Jamestown), the Pacific Northwest (Salish), Australia, Moab, Galapagos Islands, Quebec, Peru, Costa Rica, London, Paris, Cuba, and Morocco. Travel allows students to learn about different cultures and locations and inspires them toward a greater understanding of our world; we’re proud to be able to offer a wide variety of opportunities in this area.
  • Creating Opportunities -- Student unions seek to represent minority groups within our school community, and this year we have increased our efforts to support leadership activities for these groups and to increase their visibility on campus, such as with the K-12 Cinco de Mayo celebration held in the quad. We now have the following student unions: Asian, Black, and Latino; we will continue our support of these groups next year.
  • Cultivating a Responsive School Culture -- Secondary students in our Innovation and Design and Independent Seminar courses have pitched their innovative business in locations across the country, with one team even winning a trip to India to start their business. These teams have collectively won more than $50,000 for scholarships and startup funding to pursue their business ideas. Wow!

This list is just a sampling of the successes we have enjoyed this year; as we look forward, our priority is to continue our K-12 efforts to inspire students, create opportunities, and to foster a positive school culture that is responsive to the needs of all our Pumas. The future is bright for all who are part of the Peak to Peak community!

In that vein, thank you for all that you do to make this community so special. Peak to Peak would not be the school it is without your support and partnership, and I sincerely appreciate all that you do. Please accept my best wishes for a fun and relaxing summer!

See you in August,

Kelly Reeser, Executive Director of Education
