NEW Greetings Peak to Peak Families,

A warm welcome to the 2019-20 school year and to Peak to Peak’s first Friday digest of the year! I hope you all had a pleasant and relaxing summer full of memory-making events. As much as we all enjoy the downtime offered by the breaks, we are now rejuvenated and eager to begin the new year! We have a world-class school because of the exceptional students, staff, and families who make up our community, and we are incredibly thankful for all that you do to support that community. Administrators, teachers and staff have all been busy this week making preparations for students’ arrival next week, and we’re excited to welcome you all to our beautiful campus.

This year is a special one at Peak to Peak, as we are celebrating our 20th year of operation. This is a significant milestone in our school’s history! We are excited to be able to commemorate our history, our accomplishments, and to reflect on how far we have come as a school in the coming weeks and months. You may have seen the 20th anniversary T-shirts, banners and calendars at events this week, and more will be available as students return to school next week. As the year goes on, you can expect to see the 20th-anniversary theme being celebrated and communicated in a variety of ways. Many thanks to the staff who have already spent quite a bit of time developing ideas and materials. If you would like to get involved in planning our celebratory year, please contact Rachel Hirt in the Friends Office for more information.

The Friday digest is our primary method of communication with you, so please make a habit of reading it completely each week. In addition, our website is the best source of updated information about everything that is happening on campus, and our mobile application is also a wonderful tool for those people who like to have quick access to information and notifications. If you have any questions about our communication systems or anything else, please let me know.

I will look forward to welcoming you all back next week!

Best wishes,

Kelly Reeser

Executive Director of Education

NEW Traffic and Parking information

Please see the attached letter and diagram that highlight the traffic flow for daily drop-off and pick-up of students.  Also, note the designated parking areas on the diagram.  For the first few weeks of school, traffic on campus will undoubtedly be heavy and congested, so please be patient and considerate.  Please follow the guidelines listed in the letter to allow for a safer and more pleasant experience.  Also, keep in mind that traffic will improve in a few weeks as carpools get established and people stagger the times that they arrive.  Please note that Puma Drive is a one-way entrance at all times, and Canterbury Drive is a one-way exit at all times.

NEW Website Reminders and Help

Welcome back!  Do you remember:

  • How do I sign in?
  • How do I find my student’s course or classroom pages?
  • How do I personalize the calendar?
  • Other questions?

The Peak to Peak website has a wealth of important and helpful information!  We realize that a lot of people don't regularly use it over the summer so questions may arise.  Please review THIS attached reference letter and answers to additional FAQs can be found here.

NEW Traffic Repairs in Lafayette

We are passing on this information to you from the City of Lafayette:

As part of the City of Lafayette's 2019 Street Maintenance Project, they will be paving Public Road between S. Boulder Road and Baseline.  This project has a planned start date of September 16th and they anticipate that the project will last approximately 3 weeks.  It may affect bus routes and access to Peak to Peak in the area and will also likely cause delays on Public Road during construction.  They will not be closing Public Road for the project, but will have lanes closed and flaggers will be used to direct traffic around the construction area.  As paving operations occur, they will have rolling closures of cross streets that may last up to a couple of hours.  They are restricting their working time to be between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm to minimize impacts during rush hour and hopefully allow access to the school during the busiest times.

NEW  Elementary Back to School Night Information

Our Elementary Teachers invite you to join this coming Tuesday, August 13th, at 6:00 PM for our annual Back to School Night. We will all begin in the cafeteria, where the evening is designed with a mix of large and small group opportunities to meet staff, hear from teachers about the plan for the year, and begin to build the community within your classroom and grade level. Don't miss this event- the most important information of the year will be shared! Please remember, it is an adults-only evening. We look forward to seeing you there and welcoming the new school year together.

NEW Middle School Principal Update

Dear P2P Middle School Families,

A warm welcome to the 2019-20 school year! We are so excited to greet our returning students and to welcome our new 6th grade students to middle school. Teachers and administrators have been quite busy preparing for the new year this week, and we’re excited to welcome families to a brand new school year that is filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and build strong relationships.

As you may already be aware, we have not yet hired a principal for the middle school. The hiring team has been actively working on this hire over the past several months, but we have not yet found our best-fit person for this important role at our school. Our hiring process is rigorous, and it is also effective. Our standards are high and we don’t make an offer to a person until we are certain they are a good fit for our community. This can mean that we sometimes have to be patient when searching for just the right person to fill an open position. Our staff and students deserve the best, and that’s what we’re working to find. The hiring team will continue to work diligently until a hire is made.

In the meantime, we have an interim leadership plan in place to ensure that our service to students is seamless and that teachers are supported in their work in the classrooms. We are working in partnership with the rest of our Executive Leadership Team to distribute responsibilities in a way that will make it possible for the middle school to run smoothly. Please contact either of us with any questions you have, and we will work together to ensure that you have the information you need to support your students as they begin the school year.  We are looking forward to seeing all of our middle school students next week!

Warm wishes,

Libbi Peterson, Middle School Assistant Principal

Kelly Reeser, Executive Director of Education

NEW  Secondary Schedule Changes

Dear secondary families,

If students find an error in their schedule, they can submit a schedule change--through a google form for HS and through a hard-copy slip for MSOnce students have submitted a schedule change request, we ask for your patience and understanding, as counselors need time to work through all the requests. Here are some tips that will assist our staff and help this process run smoothly:

  • Please use our forms to make requests:
  • Note that the google form can only be completed by students with a valid bvsd email address.
  • Because most classes are full, only fill out the form AFTER you have checked the class availability lists which are posted in the counseling center, the HS lobby, and the MS hallway.
  • Communicate with our counselors about schedule change requests rather than reaching out to teachers.
  • Prioritization is given to ensurincorrect core class placement within the schedule.
  • Please be advised that most courses are full and we will be making few, if any, core and elective change requests. We are not able to accommodate requests to switch periods for the same class.
  • Middle School Notes:
  • All schedule change requests in middle school must be submitted in writing via the pink schedule change request form and must include the appropriate signatures. The deadline to submit schedule change requests is Monday, August 19th.

  • The top 3 reasons to request a schedule change as soon as possible:

    1. You have a class period in 1st semester with no course listed.

    2. You are missing a Core Course (your schedule could appear full in this scenario).

    3. You have either two classes listed in one period or you have the same class listed twice in the same semester.

  • Please check Infinite Campus regularly, as schedules are updated throughout the day (you may not receive a direct email from a counselor when a change is made)
  • Remember that class sizes adjust as changes are made, creating openings or maximizing class size; thus, the master schedule is in flux over the next week. We will update class availability on an ongoing basis.
  • Schedules may be adjusted through the end of the school day on August 19, 2019, so there is plenty of time to make adjustments.

The master schedule process is complex, and we thank you for your understanding as we make adjustments in order to honor as many requests as possible.

With appreciation,

The Middle School and High School Counseling Teams

NEW Middle School Back to School Night: Mark Your Calendars

When: Thursday, August 22, 6:00 - 8:00 PM

Where: Cafeteria to begin (classrooms to follow)

What: An event for parents/guardians/families of 6-8 grade students to experience a taste of middle school

Why: A chance to put yourself in your student’s shoes, get to know our teachers and staff, and to have the opportunity to be welcomed into the new school year

Note: Please print off (or have it handy on a device) your student’s schedule. After an introduction in the cafeteria, we will run a shortened class schedule so you can go through the flow of your child’s day.

We look forward to seeing you there! (Any questions? Please reach out to Libbi Peterson, Middle School Assistant Principal)

NEW Information on Our First Week’s Schedule

Monday, August 12: Transition Day for 6th Graders

Tuesday, August 13: First Official Day for All Middle School Students

Odd Schedule (Students: Please report to your 1st period to start the day)

Wednesday, August 14: Even Schedule

Thursday, August 15: Odd Assembly Schedule

Friday, August 16: Even Grade Level Time (GLT) Schedule

  • We will have 45 minutes built in to focus on grade level initiatives particularly focused on social emotional learning. One fun way we are excited to cultivate a greater sense of belonging in our community is through the offering of passions (otherwise known as clubs). Each middle school teacher will host a passion, and all students will self-select into one. They run the full gamut of interests from wiffleball to knitting to board games; gatherings will be built into the school days throughout the year on days such as these.

NEW Sixth Grade Families

Dear Sixth Grade Families,

I would like to first welcome you to your child's first year of middle school! We are excited to get to know him/her, and feel honored that Peak to Peak will be his/her school home this year.

Monday, August 12 is an exciting day for your child(ren) as they get their first taste of sixth grade through our orientation. As you may already be aware, pick-up is at noon that day. We would like to invite you to an optional event starting at 11 a.m. that morning in our cafeteria. At that time, you will have the opportunity to meet other sixth grade families, gain some information via a short presentation, and ask any lingering questions you may have. At noon, all of the sixth graders will join us just outside the cafeteria for some popsicles in the sunshine! Whenever you can make it, we look forward to seeing you soon.

Please know we are looking forward to a wonderful partnership this year.

Sincerely,

Libbi Peterson

Middle School Assistant Principal

You can no longer get your fingerprints done at the police station in Colorado. You will need to get the paperwork from our front office which will walk you through the steps of how to get your fingerprints done.
