K-12 Annual Online Book Drive!

It’s time for the annual LMC Book Drive!  Are you YETI??

The yeti is a mythical creature, like Bigfoot, and our theme for this year’s Book Drive. For the month of October, we are collecting donations for the library to keep the books up to date and relevant to our students. Please consider donating from the elementary or secondary wish lists on Amazon.com. These lists were curated by our P2P librarians who know what is needed. The annual Book Drive is our only library fundraiser and your help is extremely important. We thank you in advance for your participation! YETI, SET, GO!!!

Minor Symptoms that last longer than 48hrs:

  • Runny nose or Congestion
  • Sore Throat
  • Headache

NEW!  6th and 7th Grade Field Trip

Attention 6th and 7th grade families!  Permission slips went home this week for our walking field trips next week Wednesday, October 13th.  Please ensure that your student has turned in their form. For 7th grade students, permission slips were to be turned in to their history teacher, and any questions about the field trip itself should be directed to Jamie Black (jamie.black@bvsd.org). For 6th grade students, permission slips were to be turned in to their English teacher and field trip questions should be directed to Jenn Jouzdani (jennifer.jouzdani@bvsd.org).  Sixth and seventh grade students will be returning to school in time to be dismissed at 12:00 noon along with 8th grade PSAT students.

NEW!  PSAT Testing Information

8th graders will take the PSAT 8/9 this Wednesday, October 13th. Students should arrive no later than 7:45 AM and report directly to their testing room in the north (high school) building. Room assignments are posted in the halls of the middle school, and in the north building lobby. Students should bring: a water bottle, a snack to be eaten during the break, and a calculator, if they have one. Students should not bring: any technology, including a phone or smart watch. If these cannot be left at home, students will need to power them off and turn them into the test proctor for the duration of the test. Students cannot read or work on homework after their test so should not plan to bring those items.

Students will be done testing and dismissed for the day by 12:00 PM, except for those testing with extended time who will dismiss around 1:00 PM. Parents/guardians with students testing longer should have already received an email with additional information. If you have any questions, please reach out to Tracy Durland.

6th and 7th graders will not take the PSAT and will instead participate in grade level walking field trips. All students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM. More information can be obtained from Grade Level Leaders.

NEW!  The 2021 Healthy Kids Colorado Survey

Dear high school families,

This year, we were selected as one of many schools in the state of Colorado to implement the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey (HKCS). This survey asks questions about behaviors that may provide insight into the state of health among our teens across the state. It tracks trends and also identifies any potential areas of concern with student abuse of substances and risky behaviors. It also requests demographic information for the purposes of data collection and analysis. Please note: this is an optional survey with passive consent unless you take the appropriate steps to opt your teen out (details provided in the portfolio overview linked below). Our school will benefit from getting a unique report summarizing categories and responses to better inform our student climate activities and priorities.

We are going to implement the HKCS survey on Friday, November 5th, during our Flex Time period which is scheduled that morning (it’s also an early release afternoon). The survey will take students approximately 30-45 minutes to complete (they’ll be staying in their 3rd period classroom), and all responses are anonymous and confidential.

Again, because this survey is optional, please take a few minutes to read the attached HKCS portfolio overview (click here) so that you may better understand what is included (a copy of all questions is provided), frequently asked questions and answers about the survey, as well as the steps that are required in advance to opt your child out of the survey should you choose to do so. Please use this Opt-out Form

Thank you for your assistance as we continue to provide Colorado with data it needs to improve the quality of student health, learning, and our education system.

Sincerely,

Kyle Mathews, High School Principal

NEW! 2021/2022 Peak Annual Fund Drive, Starting Soon!

Over the next few weeks, please look for information on this year's Peak Annual Fund drive.  For over 20 years, Puma families have been invited to make a financial contribution to our school that is meaningful and significant to each individual family through this important campaign.  Unlike traditional public schools, Peak to Peak operates on a funding gap of approximately $1,000 per student. During the founding years, it was necessary to incur debt to finance the construction of the original set of campus buildings, resulting in an approximate 1.4 million dollar annual payment out of our general operating budget.  The Peak Annual Fund is powered by participation as we work together to help supplement this annual funding gap. Thank you in advance for your support.

Volunteer Needs

  • Middle School Field Trip:  The Middle School is seeking 5-10 volunteers to supervise a walking field trip on October 13th.  The 6th and 7th grade students will be walking to Lafayette from 8 am - 12 pm. Sign up here, contact Jamie Black with questions.
  • Health Room:  Seeking a volunteer to help in the health room, no experience necessary and training will be provided.  Contact Traci Schoenewe

Volunteer Information

Once on-site volunteering resumes, we will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back.  If you do not have a photo ID card please stop by the Volunteer Station at registration or contact the office staff.  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.

If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year.  You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Enter Volunteer Hours from Home:  Thank you for helping us track your hours for our records!  See this training on how to enter volunteer hours from home.

Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email either Allie Cross or Rachel Hirt, Volunteer Coordinators.  They would love to meet you!
