NEW!  Upgraded Security Cameras on Campus

Safety is a top priority for all students and staff at Peak to Peak. In support of this priority, we recently completed an upgrade to all the security cameras on campus. These improvements have significantly enhanced the quality and coverage of our camera systems in the hallways, common areas, and external spaces throughout our K-12 campus. The new cameras use current technology, have 360-degree views, and are the same model that has been installed in other BVSD schools over the past six years. In addition to higher-quality images/videos and the ability to search recordings in a streamlined way, improvements include the following:
  • Total camera views in all our buildings increased from 55 to 234 views
  • All interior common areas are covered
  • All exterior building perimeters are covered
  • The system includes 24x7 recording of activity on campus
  • Searchable recordings will be kept for 30 days
  • BVSD’s security team has access to all our cameras

Many thanks to our Facilities Director, John Wilcox, for spearheading and managing the process of installing the improved security cameras. The new system is a significant improvement over our previous equipment, which was more than 20 years old.

NEW! Colorado Gives Day is Next Tuesday - December 7th!

We'd like to remind all of our Puma families that Colorado's annual statewide giving day is next Tuesday, December 7th!    Did you know Colorado Gives Day is the biggest fundraising day of the year for our Peak Annual Fund?  Each year we raise approximately $50k on this day which goes to support our annual funding gap of approximately $1,000 per student.  As a tuition-free, school of choice we like to remind our families that donations of any amount are greatly appreciated and your contribution will go towards our school-wide goal of 100% participation.  Raffle prizes will be drawn throughout the day for participating families (and previous annual fund donors) so consider making your contribution early! If you have not yet participated in our Peak Annual Fund Drive this is a great time to do it as a % of each donation is matched by a 1.5 Million Dollar Community First Foundation incentive!   Donations can be scheduled at any time. Please stop by to visit with our annual fund ambassadors at pick up Tuesday (front circle) to ask any questions or learn more about the Peak Annual Fund. Thank you and Go Pumas!

NEW!  Safety Drill Practiced Yesterday

Safety is our primary concern for all of our students and staff, so we wanted to let you know that we practiced a fire drill Thursday morning on campus.  We are mandated by BVSD to practice monthly safety drills with our staff and students.  There was no danger or threat on campus and the drill was only practice.  Thank you everyone.

NEW! Updated KPIs

Dear Peak to Peak Community,

Newly updated Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) within our Strategic Plan are now available on the Peak to Peak website. These KPIs comprise the foundational data that Peak to Peak’s Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) use to ensure that the school is staying on track with our college-prep vision and mission.

As you will see when you review the updated data, seven of our KPI scores have been lowered from a “3” to a “2” to reflect performance below the established thresholds during the 2020-21 school year. The majority of these KPIs fall in the instructional excellence category, but they also include fundraising and relationships with parents/guardians as measured by the family survey. While these scores are disappointing, they are not unexpected given the challenges we experienced during the pandemic. Rather than allowing the lack of data in some cases and the weaker performance in our measures in others to create an exception in our scoring practices, school leaders opted to take a straightforward approach to honor the established thresholds. We are viewing these results as a test of the strength and validity of our strategic plan as a tool to drive school improvement. On each KPI sheet where the score dropped, you will see a yellow box that provides additional context for that measure.

As much as the scores that dropped tell a story, so do the measures that remained steady and that continued to exceed established thresholds. Our areas of strength include student grades, student climate, graduation rate, financial health, and employee satisfaction. The employee satisfaction and retention data are particularly notable given that the teacher shortage continues to be an issue impacting schools in Colorado and across the nation. Taken together, these measures all help shape the conversations we are having at the Board and leadership levels in order to chart an informed path forward.

The Board and ELT are currently engaged in a process to update the entire strategic plan, including consideration of a revised framework and an evaluation of the current KPIs. Part of this process will include seeking community input into the revisions; we anticipate that this will take place early in the spring of 2022. Please watch for updates about this in future editions of the Friday Digest. In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions about the updated KPIs or the strategic plan generally.

All my best,

Kelly Reeser, Executive Director of Education

NEW! BeSmart Message on Secure Gun Storage to Keep Kids Safe

As you may know, the BVSD Board of Education recently passed Resolution 21-12 in Support of Secure Storage encouraging gun safety and especially the secure storage of firearms.  They were moved by the startling statistics:

  • An estimated 4.6 million American children live in households with at least one loaded, unlocked firearm.
  • Every year, nearly 350 children under the age of 18 unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. Another 590 children die by gun suicide each year, most often using guns belonging to a family member.
  • In incidents of gun violence on school grounds, 75 percent of active shooters are current students or recent graduates, and 78 percent of shooters under the age of 18 obtained their guns from their own home, a relative’s home, or from friends.

Research shows that secure firearm storage practices are associated with up to a 78 percent reduction in the risk of self-inflicted firearm injuries and an 85 percent reduction in the risk of unintentional firearm injuries among children and teens. Learn more, including how to make sure that your kids are safe on playdates, on the BeSMART website. Learn how to securely store your firearms here (English) and here (Spanish).

Thank you for your consideration,

Wendi Hinrichs

8th grade families, PSAT 8/9 scores will be posted to your student's College Board account beginning on December 6th. If they have not made an account yet, please encourage them to do so now. This College Board account will follow them through high school and into college and will link all of their PSAT, SAT, and AP exam scores. Please help your student set up their account with their correct information and full name (no nicknames) as any errors can delay score postings. If you have any questions, please email Tracy Durland

Volunteer Information

Once on-site volunteering resumes, we will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back.  If you do not have a photo ID card please stop by the Volunteer Station at registration or contact the office staff.  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.

If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year.  You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Enter Volunteer Hours from Home:  Thank you for helping us track your hours for our records!  See this training on how to enter volunteer hours from home.
