NEW!  Community Directory Now Available on Website

Peak to Peak strives to create a strong, connected, and engaged community, and a great school resource for that is our Community Directory, which is available to all parents/guardians and students through their website login.  Peak to Peak takes your privacy very seriously and while we encourage our community to use the directory for personal reasons (e.g., arrange playdates and carpools, obtain missed homework, swap musical instruments, plan a birthday or graduation party), use of the directory for any other purpose (commercial or otherwise) is prohibited.  The 2022-2023 version is now available on our website on the Parent/Guardian page.

NEW!  Friendly “Reserved Spots” Parking Reminder

As a reminder, please be aware of our “reserved” parking spots in the main (east) lot. These spots have been purchased or awarded as prizes through Friends of Peak to Peak events and are designated exclusively for the name on the sign. Please do not park in these spots. We have students walking to those spots after school and if the car they are counting on is not there it can create a very dangerous situation. If you are interested in learning how to purchase a reserved parking spot in the future, please reach out to Friends of Peak to Peak. Thank you for your support.

NEW!  Board Meeting Public Comments Sign Up

Our next board of directors' meeting will be held in-person in our College Counseling Center or virtually on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 5:00 PM.  The agenda and meeting joining information can be found HERE. NEW!  K-12 Canned Food Drive October 31st-November 4th

A food and household items drive to benefit Sister Carmen in Lafayette is just around the corner. This year the drive will take place on campus from October 31st - November 4th. Watch for more details to come!

Annual Online Library Media Center Book Drive

It’s time for the annual LMC Book Drive! For the month of October, we are collecting donations for the library to keep the books up to date and relevant to our students. Please consider donating from the elementary or secondary wish lists on Amazon.com. See this flyer for more information:  link to flyer. These lists were curated by our P2P librarians who know what is needed. The annual Book Drive is our only library fundraiser and your help is extremely important. We thank you in advance for your participation!

Curriculum Proposals

It is our process to invite our school community to provide feedback on proposed new curriculum. We are asking our community for input, not votes, as teachers prepared these derived from student interests, etc.  Below you will find links to new curriculum proposals. If you have any feedback on the below new proposals please email Traci Schoeneweis by Friday, October 14, 2022, 3:00 PM. All comments will be sent to the Curriculum Committee. Thank you.

Community Bulletin Board
From the Parents/Guardians page of the Peak to Peak website, you can access the Community Bulletin Board. Here you will find announcements about events and opportunities shared by our community partners in the surrounding area. These events are not school-sponsored. When we receive requests from outside entities who would like to share information with our community, we post those announcements in this location.

Communication Pathways
At Peak to Peak, we strive for positive, open, and inclusive, two-way communication with our families. To facilitate this goal and to ensure we can address your needs as quickly and efficiently as possible, we use The Communication Pathways as a problem-solving strategy and the Principles for Effective Dialogue to guide a positive experience. The Communication Pathways create an effective and respectful process to resolve and address issues that arise. We have found our dialogue to be particularly productive and mutually beneficial when all parties adhere to the recommended Principles for Productive Dialogue. Please know that when you are seeking information or answers to questions, we always welcome conversations with any member of our community.

NEW!  Parent/Guardian/Student/Teacher Conference Sign Up Link Opens at 7:00 PM Tonight

If a conference is recommended by a teacher, or if you have topics you'd like to discuss about a specific course, you may go to the link for Acuity Scheduling, beginning at 7:00 PM TODAY. Once there, you may select a 10-minute appointment time on either Wednesday, October 12th or Thursday, October 13th between 3:30-6:30 p.m. If a conference is not recommended, you do not need to attend or schedule any conference appointments unless you’d like to check in with a specific teacher of your choice. NEW!  Upcoming 7th Grade Field Trip
Dear Peak to Peak 7th Grade Students and Families,

We are excited to tell you more about our upcoming 7th grade field trip opportunity! An email with this information was also sent directly to 7th grade parents/guardians email, and students were given a hard copy of this information at school today to take home to their adults. On Wednesday, October 19th, 7th graders will participate in an all-day outdoor field trip to the Genesee Challenge Course, where they will engage in teamwork, problem solving and healthy risk-taking through high- and low-ropes course challenges. Students should arrive in the Auditeria by 7:55am for a prompt departure soon after. We will return to the back of the campus by 3:30pm.

What to Bring: This is an outdoor event. To provide the most successful experience, please ensure that your student is equipped with:

  • Sack lunch & filled water bottle
  • Closed-toed/closed-heel shoes
  • Sun protection (sunscreen, glasses & hat)
  • Comfortable, weather-appropriate attire for an active day
  • Pants recommended (students will be wearing harnesses)

Please also monitor the weather and equip your 7th grader with appropriate clothing (Genesee is 1,500 feet higher than Denver, so layers and rainwear are recommended). This trip is funded by student fees, with the exception of items on the packing list. Please reach out to Jamie Black, 7th Grade Team Leader, if fees or items are a barrier to your 7th grader’s participation.

In order to participate in the Denver Parks and Recreation Challenge Course, please do the following by Friday, 10/14:

We are in need of parent/guardian volunteers and encourage volunteers who want to participate in a memorable, adventure-filled experience to join us on this day. Please contact Jamie Black (jamie.black@bvsd.org) if you are able to help. All volunteers must complete the Peak to Peak's Volunteer Process before attending.    We look forward to this fun day of connection and team building.

NEW!  8th Grade Yearbook Baby Ads
Attention 8th Grade Families! It's time to celebrate another milestone with your 8th grader in this year's middle school yearbook by surprising them with a Yearbook Recognition Ad (aka "Baby Ad"). A hard copy flier for this opportunity went home via students last week. If you did not receive a flyer or would like access to a soft copy of the advertisement, you may access it here: 8th https://theyearbookcompany.com/. If you have further questions or concerns, please contact Krista Fernandez, Middle School Yearbook Sponsor, at krista.fernandez@bvsd.org

October Testing Information and Schedule Change with Early Dismissal for Students

Dear Middle School Families and Students,

Thank you for your support this fall as we launched our inaugural 6th grade overnight to the Y of the Rockies, and will soon take our 7th and 8th graders, separately, to a high-ropes experience in Genesee. These are fall experiences we are intentionally creating for all of our students in an effort to continuously support a celebratory, inclusive and connective culture in our middle school. In addition, each October, our 8th graders take the PSAT 8 as part of our instructional preparation for their high school career, and also as a college readiness benchmark (Key Performance Indicator #3) under our school’s strategic plan. On Wednesday, October 19th, our 8th graders will take the PSAT 8 while our 6th and 7th graders will be participating in two separate, grade-level field trips. On this day, all programming will run on a special schedule; there will be no academic classes offered to middle schoolers.

Please read below for the information that applies to your student(s) for October 19th:

  • 8th grade: Students should arrive no later than 7:45am to ensure they have enough time to find their testing room and all students can start on time. Students will be done testing and dismissed for the day by 12:00pm, except for those testing with extended time. No lunch will be served to middle schoolers on this day. Parents/guardians with students testing longer will receive an email with additional information. Beginning this year, the PSAT 8 will be a digital assessment. This is in preparation for the nationwide shift to digital assessment at the high school level in the next few years. Please make sure your student brings their fully charged BVSD device on test day. If you have any questions, please reach out to Tracy Durland (tracy.durland@bvsd.org).
  • 7th grade: Students will participate in an all-day outdoor field trip to the Genesee Challenge Course, where they will engage in teamwork, problem solving and healthy risk-taking through high- and low-ropes course challenges. Students should arrive no later than 7:45am and report to the Auditeria for a prompt departure at 7:55am. We will return to campus by 3:30pm. A hard copy of a more detailed communication about this trip, including field trip forms, will be sent home with your 7th grader in the first week of October. A field trip-specific communication to 7th grade families will be included in October Weekly Digests as well (including a soft copy of field trip forms). We encourage adult volunteers who want to participate in a memorable, adventure-filled experience to join us on this day. Please contact Jamie Black (jamie.black@bvsd.org) if you are able to help. All volunteers must complete the Peak to Peak's New Volunteer Process before attending.
  • 6th grade: Students will be participating in a walking field trip that features team-building in House groups. Students should arrive no later than 7:45am and report to the classroom in which their House group meets. Students will be done with the field trip and dismissed for the day by 12:00pm. No lunch will be served to middle schoolers on this day. If you have any questions, please reach out to Jen Jouzdani, 6th grade team leader (jen.jouzdani@bvsd.org).

Thank you for your partnership and support,

Clara Quinlan, Middle School Principal

NEW!  October Volunteer Meeting

Please join us for our October volunteer meeting!  Tuesday, October 11th at 2 pm in the south conference room.  We'll be talking about all the ways to get involved!

Volunteer Needs

  • Playground Volunteers Needed:  Are you ready to shoot some hoops on the playground?  Chat with students on the wood chips?  Be a friendly face for students needing assistance at recess? Elementary administrators are looking for regular volunteers to assist our hardworking paraprofessionals and teachers out on the elementary playground.  We have two different daily time slots each weekday for which we need volunteers:
    • Lunchtime recess set-up and supervision for Grades 3-5:  Monday-Friday 10:15-10:55am
    • Lunchtime recess supervision and clean-up for Grades K-2:  Monday-Friday 10:55-11:25am
You can volunteer for between 1-5 days per week for either or both recess times. Please fill out this survey, and we will reach out to you soon to discuss the details. Thank you!
  • Trunk or Treat:  We are hosting a Truck or Treat on Friday, October 29th.  Please contact Dulce Carter with questions.
  • Reading with students in second grade:  We are looking for volunteers to listen to students read in second grade.  This takes place daily from 1:50-2:20.  Please contact Lori Douglass, lori.douglass@bvsd.org.
  • After Prom:  Please contact P2P parent Colleen Wilcox to join the After Prom planning committee.
  • Peak Gala:  Please contact Friends of Peak to Peak for information on how to help with this year's gala and auction.

Volunteer Information

Thank you for considering to volunteer at Peak to Peak!  We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back.  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.

If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year.  You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email either Allie Cross or Rachel Hirt, Volunteer Coordinators.  They would love to meet you!
