NEW! Update on Bus Transportation
Thanks to all the parents/guardians who have served on the bus committee and completed the interest survey for morning bus pick-up service. We wanted to provide a quick update on where things are with school bus transportation:
1.) We have now received three 71-passenger electric buses and are still waiting for our 24-passenger electric bus.
2.) The charging infrastructure is now completed with three 60 kW fast chargers, and two 24 kW small chargers. Fencing has also been installed around the bus storage area in the northernmost part of the north parking lot on campus.
3.) We are currently providing bus service for field trips and athletic trips.
4.) We currently have two fully certified school bus drivers and have a third one receiving training over the next few weeks. We hope to have three fully certified drivers by the 2nd week in November, and at that time will be able to provide morning bus pick-up service.
5.) A survey was put out to P2P families to express interest in having morning bus pick-up service. Based on the completed interest forms, the total number of students interested by pick-up location is shown below:
This means 149 students are interested in the Louisville/Lafayette bus, 115 in the Erie bus, and 59 in the Broomfield bus. We cannot accommodate all requests. We will likely have to conduct a lottery in determining who can use morning bus service.
We would like to hold another bus committee meeting to discuss potential changes in the morning bus routes and make final decisions on morning bus pick-up service. NEW! K-12 Canned Food Drive October 25th - November 1st - UPDATED DATES Save the date for the annual food drive to benefit Sister Carmen! Students will be able to bring in non-perishable foods, household goods, and toiletries to school 10/25 - 11/2. Last year, the Peak to Peak community generously donated a record 7,000 pounds of goods and we hope to match or beat that number this year. Students may bring their donations to school and place them in donation boxes located in their teacher's classroom or other designated locations. Here is a list of in demand items.
About Sister Carmen: Sister Carmen is a non religious, non profit that helps East Boulder County residents experiencing financial hardship. They have a food bank, offer rental and mortgage assistance, and also have a thrift store where residents benefit from the generosity of the community. Link to video about Sister Carmen |

NEW! Hearing and Vision Screenings
Hearing and vision screenings will be taking place at Peak to Peak on November 1st and 2nd as mandated by Colorado State Law. Students in the following grades will be screened: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th In addition, all students in learning services, new to the district or referred by teachers will also be screened on one of those days. If you do not wish for your student to be screened, please complete and turn in the below waiver(s) to the Health Room by Thursday, October 27th. New hearing and vision waiver forms are required at the beginning of each school year. WAIVERS:

NEW! BVSD Immunization Compliance
During the month of October, BVSD will be sending frequent reminders to families who have students with non-compliant immunization statuses. If you receive a reminder, please consider reaching out to our health room staff for help getting your student in compliance. All Peak to Peak student immunizations must be in compliance by end of the school day on Friday, October 28th Here are two possible vaccination resource clinics happening next week - Boulder County information and Broomfield information, how to complete an exemption certificate or help answer questions on what’s required when. You can check the immunization status of your child in the IC Parent Portal under Health. |

NEW! Traffic Reminders
Please remember that vehicles need to be in an official parking area/spot while waiting for student pick up. We've noticed many vehicles are waiting in the north parking lot by the tennis courts during after school pickup, which is causing some potentially dangerous situations. Some vehicles are stopping at the entrance to the lot, which blocks the entrance/exit for other vehicles or blocks spaces so people trying to leave can't back out. Also, please remember not to park/wait in handicapped spots unless you have a handicap tag. Students are attempting to get into these cars or are walking across the parking lot to get to the tennis courts or fields which is causing safety hazards. We realize it is a very hectic 20 minutes of traffic so please remember to show good character in our parking lines and lots and to our staff volunteers. |

Annual Online Library Media Center Book Drive
It’s time for the annual LMC Book Drive! For the month of October, we are collecting donations for the library to keep the books up to date and relevant to our students. Please consider donating from the elementary or secondary wish lists on Amazon.com. See this flyer for more information: link to flyer. These lists were curated by our P2P librarians who know what is needed. The annual Book Drive is our only library fundraiser and your help is extremely important. When we receive requests from outside entities who would like to share information with our community, we post those announcements in this location.

Communication Pathways
At Peak to Peak, we strive for positive, open, and inclusive, two-way communication with our families. To facilitate this goal and to ensure we can address your needs as quickly and efficiently as possible, we use The Communication Pathways as a problem-solving strategy and the Principles for Effective Dialogue to guide a positive experience. The Communication Pathways create an effective and respectful process to resolve and address issues that arise. We have found our dialogue to be particularly productive and mutually beneficial when all parties adhere to the recommended Principles for Productive Dialogue. Please know that when you are seeking information or answers to questions, we always welcome conversations with any member of our community.

NEW! K-5 Early Release After School "Día de los Muertos" Event on November 4th 12:50-3:00 PM
We are excited to announce our next elementary early release after school event! These events allow our elementary students to stay for a full day on certain early release days. Parents/guardians do not have to pick up the students who attend until 3:00 PM and all proceeds go to support our K-12 student clubs!
All K-5 students are invited to attend our next early release after school event on Friday, November 4th from 12:50-3:00 PM in our south gym. The theme will be "Día de los Muertos" and hosted by our Latino Student Union group! The cost is $10 per student.

Elementary Halloween Celebrations
It’s October and many are already thinking about Halloween. On Monday, October 31st, Peak to Peak Elementary will celebrate this tradition together with our K-12 counterparts. In elementary school, we will have a regular school day for the majority of the day, and then students will celebrate with extra festivities in the latter part of the day. NEW! Secondary UNC Math Competition
The UNC Math Competition is open to 7th through 12th graders. Last year, we had 10 students go to the regional rounds! The school round will be conducted on our campus in room S280 on Wednesday, November 9th from 3:15 - 4:45 PM. Past questions can be found here. The 2nd round is at UNC in Greeley. Upcoming 7th Grade Field Trip
Dear Peak to Peak 7th Grade Students and Families,
We are excited to tell you more about our upcoming 7th grade field trip opportunity! An email with this information was also sent directly to 7th grade parents/guardians email, and students were given a hard copy of this information at school today to take home to their adults. On Wednesday, October 19th, 7th graders will participate in an all-day outdoor field trip to the Genesee Challenge Course, where they will engage in teamwork, problem solving and healthy risk-taking through high- and low-ropes course challenges. Students should arrive in the Auditeria by 7:55am for a prompt departure soon after. We will return to the back of the campus by 3:30pm. What to Bring: This is an outdoor event. To provide the most successful experience, please ensure that your student is equipped with:
Please also monitor the weather and equip your 7th grader with appropriate clothing (Genesee is 1,500 feet higher than Denver, so layers and rainwear are recommended). This trip is funded by student fees, with the exception of items on the packing list. October Testing Information and Schedule Change with Early Dismissal for Students
Dear Middle School Families and Students, Thank you for your support this fall as we launched our inaugural 6th grade overnight to the Y of the Rockies, and will soon take our 7th and 8th graders, separately, to a high-ropes experience in Genesee. These are fall experiences we are intentionally creating for all of our students in an effort to continuously support a celebratory, inclusive and connective culture in our middle school. In addition, each October, our 8th graders take the PSAT 8 as part of our instructional preparation for their high school career, and also as a college readiness benchmark (Key Performance Indicator #3) under our school’s strategic plan. On Wednesday, October 19th, our 8th graders will take the PSAT 8 while our 6th and 7th graders will be participating in two separate, grade-level field trips. On this day, all programming will run on a special schedule; there will be no academic classes offered to middle schoolers. NEW! Pickleball Tournament Sign Up Peak to Peak tennis teams invite all pickleball players to our first pickleball tournament which will be held Saturday, October 22nd! So that we are able to accommodate more members from our Peak to Peak community, Apex Park and Recreation Department have generously offered to host our event at their Simms Street Recreation Center (11706 W. 82nd Ave., Arvada CO 80005). Puma Pete's Trunk or Treat ~ Saturday, October 29 2:00-5:00 PM All Puma ghouls and ghosts are welcome to join a fun, free community Halloween Trunk or Treat celebration at Peak to Peak Saturday, October 29th. There will be games for kids & concessions for sale benefitting After Prom. Guests will also have a chance to check out our new electric buses! We are also still looking for families and businesses interested in decorating "Vehicle Trunks" for this event. Family vehicle trunk participation is a $25 donation which includes candy and non-candy treats provided by donated funds. NEW! Pete’s Pumpkin Decorating/Carving Competition ~ Monday, October 31 Back for a 2nd year, we’ll be displaying creatively decorated pumpkins from the Peak to Peak community on Monday, October 31st ~ in partnership with other festive activities happening on campus that day. Pumpkins will be displayed in the front quad (weather dependant) for all students and parent/guardians to view (and vote!) throughout the day. Prizes will be awarded per level for winning pumpkins along with “Guess the Weight” of pumpkins grown in our Peak Learning Garden. Community members of all ages are invited to submit finished pumpkins October 31st at morning drop off. |

K-5 Grandparents & Special Friends Day Due to heavy traffic and parking expected on the originally planned date of November 10th, our annual Special Friends Day has moved to Friday, November 18th 1:30 - 2:45. On this afternoon, K-5 Pumas are welcome to invite external guests (extended family members, grandparents, family friend etc) to visit them on campus for a classroom tour, teacher meet and greet and a brief welcome & refreshments with our Elementary Principal Ms. Christensen. If you have a guest who has made special arrangements (flight booked etc) to visit on the originally scheduled date of November 10th, please notify the Friends of Peak to Peak office to arrange a special tour and classroom visit with your Puma on that day. Volunteer Needs

Volunteer Information Thank you for considering to volunteer at Peak to Peak! We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year. If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year! Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back. Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure. If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year. You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time. Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration: Volunteer Information Volunteer training is online. Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering. If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again. It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols.
