NEW!  Executive Director of Operations Search

We wanted to update our community with regards to our ongoing efforts to attract a new leader for this vital role. As you may already know, our existing Executive Director of Operations, Sam Todd has led our school in this position for many years and will retire at the end of this school year. Since the board of directors carries the responsibility for executive hires, we will lead this hiring process and work, similarly to last year's EDE hire. Here are some important points about how we are rolling out this work:

  • We have partnered with our Executive Leadership team to identify the key responsibilities that this position needs to hold as well as the skill sets and qualifications that we wish to see in an ideal candidate. The board finalized the Job Description at our most recent board meeting.
  • We have contracted with consultant Amy Slothower, who we engaged with last year during our Executive Director of Education search. Amy will cast a wide net for candidates, create a pool of highly qualified candidates and support us throughout the entire hiring process.
  • Our hiring process will be supported by a search committee ensuring we have both parent and staff representation as well as a varying degree of years of P2P specific experience. Joining us in the work are: Chirag Shah (Board president), Eveline Grady (Board member), Diangy Zaronias (parent and HOD member), Beth Custard (parent and HOD member), Jennie Klein (EDE), Kristianna Vedvik (HR Director), Dan Kroeger (Finance Director), Kyle Mathews (HS principal) and John Wilcox (Facilities Director)
  • Timeline: We have kicked-off our hiring process this week and will be posting the position in November. Our interview process will begin in January and we are hoping this process will conclude in early February. If you have any individual in mind who you think might be a good fit, please point them in our direction.

If you have any questions around this hire, please email the board p2pboard@peaktopeak.org.

With warm regards,

Your Board of Directors

NEW!  Governor Polis to Speak at Electric Bus Launch Event at Peak to Peak

Peak to Peak Charter School is operating Colorado’s first all-electric school bus fleet – and it’s time to celebrate that achievement! The Peak to Peak Electric Bus Launch Event will be held on Thursday, October 27th at 9:45 AM. We are very excited to have Governor Polis join us to kick off the event. Under his leadership, Colorado enacted SB 193, allocating $65 million for electric school buses in the state and accelerating the transition to cleaner, healthier transportation for Colorado’s students, drivers, and communities. The governor will address the audience at 10 AM on the soccer field, and then proceed to the bus storage area for a demonstration of the electric buses.

Since we are limited on seating, we cannot open this event to the general public, but several leaders from Peak to Peak, BVSD, other charter schools, electric bus vendors, and local governments will be in attendance. A small number of Peak to Peak students and faculty will also participate. If any Peak to Peak community members would like to attend the event please use this linked form to RSVP.  Attendees will have an opportunity to ride the buses and see the charging stations inside the bus enclosure. Staff from Peak to Peak and Highland will be on hand to answer questions about the deployment and technology.

Peak to Peak Charter School engaged with Highland as an affordable solution to provide transportation for student athletics and activities. Highland’s Fleet product offers full-service fleet electrification that includes financing and comprehensive services for a fixed annual fee. This product enabled Peak to Peak to avoid the high upfront cost of purchasing electric buses (typically $350,000 each), and to provide clean, reliable transportation for its students at a manageable price.

NEW!  Bus Transportation Lottery Form

Dear Peak to Peak community,

We are so excited to announce that three of our four electric buses have arrived on campus. Two of our drivers have been fully trained and certified, and one is finishing up his credentials. Our buses have completed their maiden voyages, and are continuing to provide transportation for field trips and athletic contests. Peak to Peak is extremely excited to be the first school in the country with an all-electric bus fleet. It is now time to begin the rollout of our morning bus service...please click Transportation Lottery to read the entire article and for the lottery form.

NEW!  CRT Community Communication

Dear Peak to Peak community,

Peak to Peak was recently made aware that a former employee made comments in an email that are inconsistent with our practices at Peak to Peak. We are providing the following information to address these comments and make corrections to the misinformation stated. The former employee stated in an email in May 2021 that “teaching Critical Race Theory is an essential part of the social studies curriculum at my school as well as schools throughout Boulder Valley School District." She also stated that “teaching Critical Race Theory is imperative to dismantling the racism that plagues American society today." These statements came in response to an email from Steamboat resident Ken Mauldin and were reported by the Vail Daily on October 17, 2022.

These comments are not representative of our philosophy, our curriculum or of the communications that we have shared with staff and community members. We recognize that when contradictory statements are published in the media it can cause our community to question our practices and integrity.

I assure you that Critical Race Theory is not an essential element in our social studies curriculum. "Critical race theory (CRT) is an approach to...please click CRT Communication to read the entire article.

Volunteer Needs

  • Staff Appreciation Lunch November 9th:  Our International Staff Appreciation lunch is coming up on November 9th! We are so excited about hosting another lunch in the staff’s new lounge. The last one was a complete success. This is a popular event for our teachers and staff and a great way to show them all how much we appreciate what they are doing. We will be making 4 lunches this year and we need all of the donations we can get. Please email me or call me with any questions or ideas. Nicole Harrison harrisonnicole@me.com (303)803-0453.  Nov 9th Staff Appreciation sign up here

  • Playground Volunteers Needed:  Are you ready to shoot some hoops on the playground?  Chat with students on the wood chips?  Be a friendly face for students needing assistance at recess? Elementary administrators are looking for regular volunteers to assist our hardworking paraprofessionals and teachers out on the elementary playground.  We have two different daily time slots each weekday for which we need volunteers:
    • Lunchtime recess set-up and supervision for Grades 3-5:  Monday-Friday 10:15-10:55am
    • Lunchtime recess supervision and clean-up for Grades K-2:  Monday-Friday 10:55-11:25am
You can volunteer for between 1-5 days per week for either or both recess times. Please fill out this survey, and we will reach out to you soon to discuss the details. Thank you!

Volunteer Information

Thank you for considering to volunteer at Peak to Peak!  We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back.  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.

If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year.  You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email either Allie Cross or Rachel Hirt, Volunteer Coordinators.  They would love to meet you!
