NEW!  Executive Director of Operations Search and Finalists Announced

We are pleased to announce that the search committee has named three finalists for our new Executive Director of Operations (EDO) position. The committee has engaged in an in-depth process to select these finalists. It received more than 100 applications and conducted multiple interviews with eight semi-finalists. After careful consideration, the Peak to Peak Board of Directors has invited Jennifer Dauzvardis, Jennifer Douglas, and Jim Pait to advance to the final round. Candidates will be on campus February 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. They will each have a chance to meet with faculty, administrators, students, and Board members. The Board will consider the valuable input of all of these constituents during its decision making process. If you have any questions relating to the EDO hiring process, please contact us at p2pboard@peaktopeak.org.  Meet the finalists HERE.

NEW!  Accountability Committee Family Survey

The Accountability Committee needs your anonymous responses to the Family Survey. We are currently at only 27%  participation which is well below our goal of 60% participation. A link to the survey is included below and will also be emailed to families directly today. In addition, you can access a link to the survey by using your school-provided website login and visiting the Parent/Guardian page. The last day to complete the survey is February 6th!

NEW!  Peak to Peak Completes Purchase of Land East of Campus

On January 6, 2023, Peak to Peak completed the purchase of a parcel of land that is adjacent to the Peak to Peak campus and located directly to the east of the middle school playground (85 N 120th Street). This one-acre lot will provides additional opportunity for campus expansion, though no final decisions have been made regarding the best use of the parcel. The purchase price was $316,226. Peak to Peak will be conducting some clean-up of debris on the property over the next several weeks. As we explore the future of the campus, we will involve the community in decision-making and revisiting our previously explored designs.

NEW!  Electric Bus Update

Peak to Peak has been actively engaged with Navistar, the manufacturer of the three 71-passenger IC electric buses; and Lightning EMotors, the manufacturer of the 24-passenger Type A bus. In addition, we are working closely with our electric bus partner, Highland Electric Fleets; and McCandless Truck Center, our bus repair partner. Our vendors are very involved in helping to get our electric buses running effectively and reliably. Electric buses are a new technology and the difficulties we are experiencing are typical with new technologies. We have experienced a variety of issues with the buses, from inadequate heating systems (which have been upgraded) to charging issues. We’ve learned that the cold weather also greatly reduces the battery life for the buses, so we have to be careful with the length of bus trips. Our bus drivers have gone through additional training with Navistar, and McCandless technicians are also receiving additional training. We are confident that we will have the buses operating reliably in the coming weeks. While we have delayed the introduction of morning pick-up service, we have still been able to take field trips and athletic trips on an ongoing basis. We anticipate that by early February, all three large buses will be fully operational. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Sam Todd, executive director of operations, at sam.todd@bvsd.org

Internal Climate Survey - Annual Public Notification/ Opt-Out Communication

Peak to Peak’s annual internal student climate survey will be administered during the weeks of February 7th - 17th to students grades three - twelve. This anonymous survey, implemented once a year, takes about ten minutes to complete and helps us gauge student opinions and experiences compared to previous years and informs our goals and efforts to support students. Elementary students are asked 16 questions and secondary students are asked 28 questions. The questions address a range of issues from the effectiveness of curricula and teachers to bullying and safety. At the secondary level, students are asked questions about mental health and substance abuse. Elementary students are asked to self-identify their gender identity (male/ female/ prefer not to answer). Secondary students are asked to self-identify their demographic information such as race, gender identity, and sexual orientation. All demographic questions have an opt-out option. This helps us review and disaggregate data, better understand the needs and responses of our cohorts, and track related trends in climate responses over time. Climate survey results are one measure in the school’s strategic plan, as a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) for Relational Excellence. You are welcome to review all of the questions that students will be asked on our Current Climate Survey Questions document. After the survey has been completed, we will share a summary of this year’s results.

This survey is not mandatory, but participation is strongly encouraged so that we can gather the data we need to help grow and maintain a healthy school climate and culture. Our administrative team reviews the results, identifies any data trends over time, targets areas for annual improvement, and values the feedback to help monitor and adjust over the course of the year. If you do not wish your student to participate for any reason, simply complete this form requesting they be excused from participation in this year’s student climate survey.  If you would like further details about the survey, please contact any of the level assistant principals. This notification is in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment.

Sincerely,

Melissa Christensen,  Elementary School Principal & Alison Berman, Elementary School Assistant Principal

Clara Quinlan, Middle School Principal &  Victoria Hankey, Middle School Assistant Principal

Peak to Peak 8th Grade Lock-In: Message to 8th Grade Families

Hello amazing 8th grade parents/guardians,

Can you believe we have 8th graders who are getting ready to make the transition into high school? Where in the world does the time go? The reason for this email is that some of the parents/guardians of the 2027 Peak to Peak graduating class had the idea to celebrate these students and have volunteered our time to develop and create an experience just for them.

We approached the administration and received their approval to move forward with a Peak To Peak 8th Grade Lock-in! We are excited about this opportunity but need your help in a variety of ways:

  1. We need volunteers for both the planning and to help execute the event. If you are interested in helping please reach out to Marian Freshour (mtsoufreshour@gmail.com) or Becky Day (Rebecca.day@primus.us).
  2. Please register your student and pay the $30 participation fee here by 2/10/2023 : 8th Grade Only Lock-In (RevTrak). We will make sure every 8th grader interested in attending will be able to attend via a scholarship/sponsorship. If you would benefit from funding support, please connect with Principal Quinlan (clara.quinlan@bvsd.org) or Amy Skinner (amy.skinner@bvsd.org). Your request will remain confidential.
  3. Donations and food: as the evening is being built out and developed, we will be in need of a variety of donations. Please make sure to check this donation list and sign up.

Title IX Training Notice to Families 1.6.23

Dear High School Students and Families,

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful winter break. New Years is always a good opportunity for reflection and to consider changes for the better. That is why it is a perfect time for us, as a school community, to come together and resolve to be the safe and welcoming high school we know we can and should be.

In the month ahead, all high school students will receive district facilitated Title IX information and training during sessions with their grade level peers. While we are unique as a charter high school in BVSD, we share BVSD’s stance against sexual misconduct and harassment. Everyone needs to know that Peak to Peak and BVSD have a zero-tolerance policy for sex-based harassment, and for all forms of harassment and discrimination which have no place in our schools. To that end, we want to let you know about upcoming training and update you on our reporting process. We have systems in place to support students who see or hear inappropriate behavior that is sexual in nature or otherwise.

Anyone can report threatening behavior including sexual harassment or violence, bullying and discrimination by speaking to a trusted adult like a school administrator, counselor, teacher or paraprofessional. Additionally, if there is a threat to safety, students may make an anonymous report via Safe2Tell.  All student reports are taken seriously and will be investigated right away; students found responsible for discrimination will have consequences and potential restorative opportunities in line with school and district policy.

We recognize that it is crucially important that all of us stand up against abuse, bias and hate to make our school and our community a welcoming and supportive place for everyone. We ask that our community comes together to make sure Peak to Peak is a safe and welcoming environment for everyone and that fear and discrimination are not a part of the school experience.

Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to a fantastic launch to 2023!

Kyle Mathews, High School Principal

Josh Benson, High School Assistant Principal

NEW!  Peak Gala ~ Come Aboard, We’re Expecting You!

The 2023 Peak Gala committee is excited to invite all Puma families and friends to this year’s "Nautical Night on the SS Puma" on Friday, March 10th at the Omni Hotel in Broomfield. Early bird ticket pricing is available through February 14th. This year's event will include deck games, a cruise buffet, auction item viewing/online bidding & "mini-live" auction, complimentary beer, wine, “Salty Petes” (signature drink), a festive program supporting our Peak Innovation Fund & a great time with other Puma families and staff members. **When purchasing tickets, you have the option to select a table for dinner. Feel free to select your Puma’s grade level table to sit with others in your grade/homeroom, create a new table & and invite others to join you by selecting your table when they purchase their tickets, or, select “fun and flexible” to sit with and enjoy dinner with community members from throughout our school.*** We sincerely hope to “Sea” you there!

The largest fundraising portion of the Peak Gala is our online auction! Everyone is invited to bid on auction items (and donate items!) whether you attend the gala or not. All physical auction items will be on display at the gala on March 10th so we hope you are planning to attend. Bidding will close at exactly 8:30pm which means all items will be available for pickup that night. The heart of our auction is our community! Each year over 75% of auction items are donated by P2P families and staff. Past items have included local getaways, restaurants, services, handmade items, donations of skills and talents, unique experiences, lessons and classes, home goods, gift certificates, themed baskets, sports tickets, family activities, summer camps, and much more! Many past items have come through extended family and friends. No item is too small, too big or too unique ~ there's a happy bidder for every item! Thank you for considering your personal network & places you patronize to consider asking to donate an item to our auction. It's a great way to support our school while also advertising to 1000+ local families and bidders. Please find our auction item letter here which can be downloaded/printed or emailed to a potential donor. Items can be conveniently entered HERE or through our registration site. Please contact the Friends of Peak to Peak office with any questions. On behalf of our planning committee thank you for your participation!

Volunteer Needs

Volunteer Information

Thank you for considering to volunteer at Peak to Peak!  We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back.  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.

If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year.  You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email either Allie Cross or Rachel Hirt, Volunteer Coordinators.  They would love to meet you!
