A preliminary candidate list will be published to all of the candidates after the candidacy deadline.  Candidates will then have the opportunity to withdraw from the election if they change their mind about running or make any edits to their responses by April 5th.  Responses from the candidates who wish to remain in the election will be distributed to families in our Friday, April 7th Weekly Digest and published on our website.

NEW!  Electric Bus Update

We are pleased to report that Bus #1 and Bus #2 are back in full operation and have been taking multiple field trips and athletic trips. The replacement parts for Bus #3 were received yesterday at McCandless Truck Center and will be installed today, so this bus should be back on the road by Monday, February 6th. Unfortunately, due to some recalls on our 24-passenger Bus #11, it will be replaced with a new bus in March. This bus is primarily used for smaller athletic teams, and will hopefully be ready for them in the spring sports season. We have appreciated the attention that Navistar, Highland Electric Fleets, Lightning eMotors, and McCandless Truck Center have given to our buses to ensure that the reliability is improved. If you have any questions, please contact Sam Todd at sam.todd@bvsd.org.

NEW!  BVSD Board of Education (Not Peak to Peak's Board Election) Election This Fall
This fall, four of the seven Boulder Valley School District’s Board of Education seats will be up for election, including two that are open due to term limits. Open seats include Lafayette (“District G”) where Peak to Peak is located, and parts of Erie (“District D”). It is critical that our charter schools have representation on the local Board of Education as a means to provide diverse educational options for students. In the coming year, Peak to Peak will begin contract renewal negotiations with BVSD. Having a seated board member with charter school knowledge and experience will help these negotiations proceed smoothly. If you are passionate about education and are interested in making a difference in the community and for Peak to Peak, we encourage you to explore this opportunity.

Internal Climate Survey - Annual Public Notification/ Opt-Out Communication

Peak to Peak’s annual internal student climate survey will be administered during the weeks of February 7th - 17th to students grades three - twelve. This anonymous survey, implemented once a year, takes about ten minutes to complete and helps us gauge student opinions and experiences compared to previous years and informs our goals and efforts to support students. Elementary students are asked 16 questions and secondary students are asked 28 questions. The questions address a range of issues from the effectiveness of curricula and teachers to bullying and safety. At the secondary level, students are asked questions about mental health and substance abuse. Elementary students are asked to self-identify their gender identity (male/ female/ prefer not to answer). Secondary students are asked to self-identify their demographic information such as race, gender identity, and sexual orientation. All demographic questions have an opt-out option. This helps us review and disaggregate data, better understand the needs and responses of our cohorts, and track related trends in climate responses over time. Climate survey results are one measure in the school’s strategic plan, as a KPI (Key Performance Indicator) for Relational Excellence. You are welcome to review all of the questions that students will be asked on our Current Climate Survey Questions document. After the survey has been completed, we will share a summary of this year’s results.

This survey is not mandatory, but participation is strongly encouraged so that we can gather the data we need to help grow and maintain a healthy school climate and culture. Our administrative team reviews the results, identifies any data trends over time, targets areas for annual improvement, and values the feedback to help monitor and adjust over the course of the year. If you do not wish your student to participate for any reason, simply complete this form requesting they be excused from participation in this year’s student climate survey.  If you would like further details about the survey, please contact any of the level assistant principals. This notification is in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and the Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment.

NEW!  Parent/Guardian/Student/Teacher Conferences

Dear Secondary Families,

We are pleased to offer digital sign-ups through Acuity Scheduling to arrange virtual parent/guardian/student/teacher conferences with our 6-12th grade teachers this spring. Shortly, teachers will have updated recommendations on each student's course progress reports and grade reports in Infinite Campus. If you haven’t done so already, please take a few moments to check your Infinite Campus portals and review grade report comments for each class your student is enrolled in. If a conference is recommended by a teacher, or if you have topics you'd like to discuss about a specific course, you may go to the link for Acuity Scheduling, beginning at 7:00 PM on Friday, February 10th (link will be in the Friday Puma Digest and you will be able to schedule your conferences starting at 7:00 PM). Once there, you may select a 10-minute appointment time on either Wednesday, February 15 or February 16th between 3:30-6:30 p.m.  If a conference is not recommended, you do not need to attend or schedule any conference appointments unless you’d like to check in with a specific teacher of your choice. If attending conferences, we do request that students attend along with parents/guardians as important participants in our conference meetings.

Once scheduled, you will receive an appointment confirmation for each conference meeting. You can save these right into your calendars of choice. Teachers will also be sending you a Google Meet link for your scheduled session. Please wait to enter your meeting until your time begins, and be aware that some teachers may be using one conference meet invitation for all of their students and families. If you arrive in a meeting that is still in progress, please give participants a moment or two to wrap up and maintain privacy for families.

Thank you for planning ahead for our conferences. We hope this process continues to meet the needs of our students, families and staff. We appreciate your feedback to help us continually improve our conference offerings each year.

Kyle Mathews, High School Principal

Clara Quinlan, Middle School Principal

NEW!  Middle School Guest Speaker

Dear Middle School Students and Families,

It is with genuine excitement that we share with you an upcoming community-wide opportunity funded by Peak to Peak’s Innovation Fund. Under a grant proposal written by Ms. Knorr, our Middle School Transitions and THRIVE Leadership Seminar teacher, Ed Gerety will be joining us as a guest speaker on Wednesday, February 22nd, to facilitate programming aimed to strengthen each student’s identity, purpose and unique contributions to our community. Mr. Gerety is a nationally recognized youth leadership trainer that believes in creating proactive emotional literacy within school communities through interactive storytelling and customized student leadership programs (website). His work is featured, and has been well received by students, in our THRIVE Leadership Seminar curriculum. His on-campus presence will now bring these lessons to life for our entire school community as he works, in partnership with Ms. Knorr and our grade-level leadership team, to customize an experience for each of our grade levels. Over our lunch period, he will also work directly with our House Prefects Leadership team to catapult their efforts in the creation of a student-driven, inclusive and celebratory climate in our middle school.

On Wednesday, February 22nd, students at each grade level will rotate into this special programming for 45 minutes only during their 2nd, 4th or 6th period. A full day of instruction will continue throughout the day, and classes will remain aligned with our posted secondary bell schedule. In addition, our House Prefects Leadership team will have the opportunity to collaborate with Mr. Gerety during our regularly scheduled middle school lunch.

We are grateful for our school community’s annual contributions to the Peak to Peak Innovation Fund, which is an outgrowth of our community’s commitment to supporting innovative initiatives in classrooms and around campus. It is because of this level of financial support that we are able to bring impactful opportunities like this one to over 400 students in one day. We look forward to seeing Mr. Gerety’s positive impact on our students’ social skills, strengthening of identities and belief in their own capacity for leadership. If you have any further questions, please contact Ms. Knorr or one of the middle school principals.

Thank you for your continued partnership with us,

Jess Knorr, Middle School Transitions & THRIVE Leadership Seminar teacher

Clara Quinlan, Middle School Principal

Victoria Hankey, Middle School Assistant Principal
