NEW! Safety Update
You may have heard that Boulder Valley School District had several scary incidents over the past week, each of which pertained to a threat of risk. During one of these incidents Boulder High was placed on lockdown and was eventually evacuated while school leadership and local police investigated the report of an active shooter on campus. Luckily, the report was unfounded and no one was harmed. School safety is always our top priority at Peak to Peak and I wanted to share with you a few of the ways we continue working to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
These are just a few of the measures we are taking to ensure the safety and security of all members of the Peak to Peak community. There is no one measure or step, but rather it is a layered approach to safety and security that is our best strategy. We learn from each and every incident that occurs both locally and nationally. We are committed to adapting our practices as needed. As always please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns at jennifer.klein@bvsd.org. |

NEW! Transportation Update
As many of you know, we continue to have issues with reliable operation of our electric buses. Unfortunately, we were unaware when we signed our lease that these buses had not been fully tested in Colorado, and the cold weather has had a greater than expected impact on our buses. Sam Todd and his team continue to work with Highland Electric Fleets and McCandless Truck Center to resolve the issues. We are currently in negotiations to obtain an additional bus for next year at a low cost or no cost, which could serve as a back-up when any of our existing buses are not operating. Xcel Energy has already committed to installing the fast charger at no cost to P2P. We recognize that it is extremely frustrating when activities and field trips are canceled or postponed due to these issues. Unfortunately, there are very few options other than continuing to work through the issues that arise. Since mid-February, all three large buses have been operating nearly every day and taking multiple field trips and athletic trips. As a reminder, the initial reason we leased the buses was due to the fact that BVSD and other service providers that we have historically contracted with for school buses are no longer able to serve any of our transportation needs. Our only option was to acquire our own buses and use them to serve as many of our transportation needs as possible. Peak to Peak leadership and the board were aware that the buses were only capable of embarking on trips that were less than 120 miles roundtrip; the intent has always been to only use buses for local transportation needs. We would like to thank the Peak to Peak community for your patience as we continue to work through the mechanical issues. Both Highland and McCandless have been supportive and collaborative partners as these issues have arisen and we hope we are getting closer to understanding and resolving these difficulties. |
NEW! Next Community Virtual Q&A on March 15th
Peak to Peak will be hosting a Community Virtual Q & A on March 15th from 6:30-7:30 PM. Please use the following information to join the meeting:
To better understand the topics our community members are most interested in discussing or learning more about, we are asking for input via this webpage on the Peak to Peak website. This page is only visible to parents/guardians using the school-provided login credentials and to adult members of the Peak to Peak staff. This is a discussion format and members are encouraged to engage with one another and to build upon the suggested topics of interest. This meeting will include a short presentation from staff members or administration based on trends in the topic suggestions and questions we receive. While we may not be able to address every topic or question suggested, we will do our best to capture the topic trends. Click on the "Comments" link to add your ideas or to read what others are saying. Comments are approved prior to posting to the page, so they will not appear right away. The deadline for submitting comments is March 10th. Comments will be approved daily through March 10th, so check back often. Once approved for posting, comments will be visible to other community members when logged in. Please note that usernames will be posted along with your comments, and anonymous comments will not be included. Thank you for your contributions, questions, and suggestions! |
K-12 Pi Day Competition
We will be holding the Pi Day recitation competition on Tuesday March 14th. We ask that elementary students of any age memorize by heart at least 20 digits or more, middle schoolers memorize at least 50 digits or more, and high schoolers at least 80 digits or more. Please fill out the form for attendance so that we can send you a certificate of participation and give the top 3 memorizers prizes. Sign up using the link below or on the QR codes on posters around the school. It is our last year to hear our senior Faith recite many many digits - will there be a new challenger to her school record? Good luck!

NEW! Internal Student Climate Survey Results
Several weeks ago, we administered our annual internal student climate survey to students in grades 3-5, with an overall participation rate of 84%. This survey is extremely important to us, as it gives us insight into our elementary students’ lived experiences at school. All responses are anonymous, and we encourage students to provide their honest feedback. Our goal is to use this feedback so that we may grow in our efforts to achieve an essential part of our mission: to ensure that each student at Peak to Peak is known, respected, and valued as an individual of great potential and promise. Results Analysis...please click Elementary Internal Student Climate Survey Results to read the entire article. |

NEW! Homeroom Placement Input Form (current grades Kindergarten-4th grade)
Soon, our staff will begin creating homeroom lists for next year. It is our goal at Peak to Peak to balance homeroom classes based on students’ academic, behavioral, and social strengths and needs. Decisions regarding student room assignments will be made collaboratively among the current teachers, special program teachers and administration. Current needs, special factors, and previous situations are taken into account to best inform class placement for the following year. Lists are created, revised, and reviewed multiple times before they are finalized in August. This process is taken very seriously by staff members, and an extensive amount of time is spent trying to create favorable outcomes for students and teachers in the following year.
If you would like to provide input for consideration of your child's placement, please read this description of placement procedures and complete the included Placement Input Form by Friday, April 7, 2023.

NEW! Internal Student Climate Survey Results
Dear Middle School Students and Families, Several weeks ago, we administered our annual internal student climate survey. Our annual student climate survey gives us insight into our middle school students’ lived experience at this point in their school career, and we are grateful to our students for their participation and candid responses. This spring, we had a participation rate of 86% in the middle school: we are pleased that our participation rate remains high for a second year in a row so that we can more reliably identify areas for celebration and growth. Volunteer Needs
|
Volunteer Information Thank you for considering to volunteer at Peak to Peak! We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year. If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed our volunteer waiver and release form then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year! Please make sure you have a photo volunteer ID card with a barcode on the back. Please contact Traci Schoeneweis or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure. If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the volunteer waiver and release form each year. You will be given a one-time volunteer ticket to turn in when you volunteer the one time. Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration: Volunteer Information Volunteer training is online. Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering. If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again. It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well for a refresher on protocols. Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information. It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website. Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email either Allie Cross or Rachel Hirt, Volunteer Coordinators. They would love to meet you! |
