High School Updates:
Current 12th grade parents/guardians (No students): Save the date for Transition to College Night- Monday, May 6th at 5:30 PM in the college counseling center. Learn best practices for the transition to the first year of college.

Junior Scholarship:
Juniors: Write a 500–550 word essay answering the question, “ If you could change one thing in the world to make it a more caring place, what would you change?”
Our entry portal is open for essay submissions now until May 31st, 2019. We will be awarding 10 first prizes of $350 each and 10 honorable mention prizes of $100 each.
Scholarship winners will be announced June 15th, 2019. Scholarship contest details and the electronic entry submission portal can be found here: https://www.unifiedcaring.org/
Juniors:
Are you interested in learning more about Colorado College or a selective liberal arts college in general? Apply to the Colorado Scholar Program held on July 19th. Colorado College will honor outstanding juniors who have demonstrated academic prowess and significant engagement in their school and local communities. During this program, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff will illuminate the benefits of a top-tier liberal arts education, recognize the achievement of Colorado Scholars, and encourage continued high school success. The Colorado Scholars Program is intended to be 1) an introduction to the liberal arts and attending a liberal arts college and 2) an awards program meant to recognize your hard work both in your school and your community! You will hear from Colorado College students, staff, and faculty about the benefits of college and of the liberal arts, tour the beautiful Colorado College campus, and listen to faculty members and students speak about transitioning into college. We hope it will spark some questions and provide some answers for you in your college search. https://www.
Rose Community Foundation is seeking diverse Jewish teens to apply to participate in Rose Youth Foundation 2019-2020. Rose Youth Foundation is a youth-led program. The members of Rose Youth Foundation identify community issues, set funding priorities and meet with nonprofit organizations in order to determine how they can use grantmaking as a tool to create positive change. Applicants should be entering grades 10 through 12 in fall 2019, identify as Jewish and live in Greater Denver or Boulder. The deadline to apply is Friday, May 31, 2019 at 5:00 PM. Questions:

School Crossing Guards: We have openings for Crossing Guard next school year. They are paid positions $12.03 per hour. You need to be at least 16 years old. If you are interested please see Mrs. Schoeneweis in the main office.

As a reminder, if you need a letter of recommendation for a summer program, please complete this recommendation request form at least 3-4 weeks ahead of any program deadlines. You need to complete the form for each program you plan to apply for. Do not reach out to teachers directly. It is to your benefit to completely answer each question on the form.

Leadership & Community Service Opportunities:
The City of Lafayette has some service hour/teen volunteer opportunities available at Art Night Out this summer, beginning Friday, May 10 and on 2nd Fridays through September. We need teen help in three different ways:
- Help with set up. There are two set up shifts. Duties would be helping to set up canopy tents, some tables, and hanging signs.
- During they need help with restocking water, taking water to volunteers, and emptying trash cans. Or a teen would be partnered with an adult to stand at one of the entry gates to greet people.
- We also have a shift for clean-up. The schedule is below. Let Rachel Hanson (contact info below) know if interested in one or more of these shifts.
Art Night Out Shifts:
- Set up crew A 2:00 - 3:30pm
- Set up crew B 3:30 – 5:00pm
- Shift #1 5:00 – 6:30 pm
- Shift #2 6:30 – 8:00 pm

The Aquetza: Youth Education, Leadership, and Community Empowerment program application is now open. Aquetza is a FREE 10-day residential academic and community leadership program for high school students with strong ties to the Chican@/Latin@ community who are interested in cultivating their leadership skills and gaining the tools necessary to engage with the process of enacting meaningful social change.
This summer, the program will run from July 19-July 28, 2019. We are currently accepting applications from Colorado high school students in grades 9, 10 and 11 to attend our program this summer. The application deadline is May 5th! There is no GPA requirement and no cost for the program. Students with non-traditional academic and social backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Apply for the Community Foundation Boulder County for their 15 Forever youth philanthropy program. Student applications for next year are open and due May 13!Applications are available online here. May 13th is the application deadline for a life-changing leadership opportunity for students. 15 Forever is a collaboration with YouthRoots, a national youth philanthropy organization that teaches high school students how to make the world a better place while developing their leadership and life skills. YouthRoots was recently awarded the National Philanthropy Day's Award for "Outstanding Foundation." The program is completely free. As members of 15 Forever, students will:
- Learn and practice skills that will empower them to be a strong leader today and tomorrow
- Use philanthropy to tackle issues they care about
- Collaborate with awesome high schoolers from different schools
- Complete 60 hours of community service

Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute
The University of Denver is excited to announce our summer Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute, which brings together excelling students from Colorado and across the country who identify as Black/African American and/or Latinx! This three-day institute focuses on enhancing college access, exploring racial/ethnic identity, and expanding leadership for rising high school juniors and seniors. Our 2019 Pioneer Prep Leadership Institute will be held July 24th - 26th on the University of Denver campus. These dynamic three days and two nights will be jam-packed with high quality workshops, leadership building activities, opportunities to better understand the college application process, exploration of personal identity, and engagement with DU administrators and current students. By the end of the program your students will be welcomed into the Pioneer Prep family, which is a community of people striving to help them in attainment of their educational goals. Check out this video to learn more about this unique and important program! The total cost of the program is $60, with scholarship consideration for families who demonstrate financial hardship through free or reduced lunch. Benefits provided to selected Pioneer Prep participants:
- Dynamic on-campus experience promoting college access, leadership, and cultural identity
- Quarterly activities on campus to reconnect with DU staff and other Pioneer Prep students
- Build one's resume and social circle of influence
- $65 Application Fee Waiver when applying to DU
- If admitted, and depending on financial need, Pioneer Prep participants will receive a Pathways Scholarship worth up to $7500 a year, renewable for four years at DU

Second Wind Fund of Boulder County- Volunteers needed and FUN RUN EMERGE 5K
As you may know, Second Wind Fund of Boulder County provides free counseling to at-risk students in Boulder Valley. Their run/walk, EMERGE, is what keeps this service going for students in our district. P2P students and families are encouraged to participate in this event (and it is a Bolder Boulder Qualifying event). This year, the family-friendly event will be on Sunday, May 5th, at 9:30 AM, at the Boulder Reservoir, and will feature live music and FREE burritos from SNOOZE!
