NEW Social Media and Communication Pathways

We know that many families use social media as a way to build connections with other members of the community. For example, many parents, guardians, and students are members of closed Facebook groups, identified by the student’s graduation year, as a means of communicating and connecting with one another. These are different from the school’s official Facebook page, which is used to communicate school-wide announcements and celebrations. We encourage the positive community-building opportunities presented by social media, and welcome opportunities for families to build relationships with one another. If you participate in a social media group associated with your students’ class, please remember that information shared through these venues does not constitute official communications from the school. We encourage everyone using social media outlets to be mindful of the Communication Pathways in place at the school, to maintain appropriate and respectful dialogue when using social media, and to use the Communication Pathways when questions or issues arise.

NEW Grade Level Assemblies - Connecting with our iROAR Values
All middle school students took part in a grade level assembly this Thursday. We share this with you so conversations may continue at home because we value our school-home partnerships and appreciate all of your support.

6th Grade: Teachers modeled the writing and sharing of positive referrals, which recognize a student for exemplifying one of our iROAR qualities (inclusion, respect, opportunity, accountability, responsibility). Students then had the opportunity to write notes of gratitude for their classmates and share out loud as time allowed. Each student was given a bracelet featuring, "iROAR" to serve as a reminder of our middle school values and the importance of passing along kindness.

7th and 8th Grade: Six of our high school student leaders served on a panel during this combined grade level assembly. Each student shared, "A Letter to my Middle School Self" in which they spoke about what middle school was truly like for them. Following the presentation of letters, the high school students answered questions from our middle school students on topics such as stress, social drama and the difference between middle and high school. We framed the conversation with the word, "courage", encouraging all students to have the courage to speak their truth and to be themselves.

Volunteer Opportunities:

Staff Appreciation Luncheons on January 26th

Our staff LOVE these lunches! This is a great opportunity to meet staff in a very relaxed setting. One of the perks of helping serve is sitting down after the staff eat and enjoying a great lunch together. Each date below has a google doc link to sign up. Be sure to put it on your calendar! Please let Linda Willetto (linda@willetto.us) know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns!

Middle School Lunch Assistance

We would love 1 or 2 more people to commit to a day of the week. The middle school staff would like assistance during the kids' lunchtime. They would like another set of eyes on the kids before during and after the lunch period from 12:00-12:30. Please sign up for a day that you can do every week consistently. It's an easy way to volunteer and keep track of everything happening at school.

Elementary Talent Show

The Elementary Talent Show is coming up and we need your help to make it happen. Please see the attached spreadsheets to volunteer. Vanessa Bonner has graciously taken on running the whole event but will be gone for the preview day so we especially need a point person that day who has attended the event before to volunteer. Thank you for your help.
