NEW Due to the Gas Leak…The Peak to Peak Community Meeting IS NOW on April 23rd!

Dear Peak to Peak Families,

The future is bright at Peak to Peak! With the unveiling of our new strategic plan in January, the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team have collaboratively identified several strategic focus areas for the coming years. Additionally, at this same meeting, the Accountability Committee will be sharing the results of the Annual Survey they have conducted. We are excited to share all of this information with you, our valued community.

To this end, you are cordially invited to attend a community meeting on Monday, April 23rd 6:30 to 8:30 PM in the College Counseling Center. At this meeting, which follows a regularly scheduled Board meeting, we will showcase our new strategic plan and discuss the school’s future directions that are under consideration. We intend to lead a dynamic and interactive session, and would love to have your input as we are charting the school’s path forward over the next five years.

If you would like to review our strategic plan, please see the links below. Thanks very much for all you do to support our wonderful school community. We hope to see you at our Community Meeting on April 23rd!

Warm regards,

Kelly Reeser

NEW After Prom Committee Needs Donations

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Peak to Peak After Prom Committee needs your help!

One of the most anticipated and memorable events for our Peak to Peak students, the High School Junior/Senior Prom, is right around the corner on April 6, 2018. Student Council has a fantastic Prom planned this year, and as is customary for our school, our parent group is sponsoring the Peak to Peak “After Prom.” Did you know that on a typical prom weekend: 48 American teenagers are killed in vehicle crashes, 5,202 are injured and 40% of the deaths are alcohol-related? (DOT)? This year we are collaborating exclusively with Fat Cats on April 6/7, 2018 from 12 am – 4 am to provide a fun, safe and substance-free After Prom event for our hardworking students. We are asking for the help of the entire Peak to Peak community to make this a safe and memorable night for our kids.

This event requires a significant amount of planning, resources and support. Over the past several months the After Prom Committee has been working feverishly with local businesses and within the community to raise funds to offset a portion of the ticket price and to pull off the event. But we are not there yet, and we cannot do this alone! We are counting on the generosity of people like you to help us fund the experience and contribute door prizes geared for teenagers and incoming college freshmen.

Here’s what we need:

  • Gift cards to restaurants, entertainment, and big box stores such as Target, Wal Mart, Best Buy
  • Prizes such as backpacks, headphones, laptops, phones, coffee makers, mini refrigerators, bikes, comforters/linens, TVs, calculators, IPODs, AirPods
  • Monetary donations to offset the costs and ticket prices of the event.

PLEASE consider:

  • Making a personal or business donation to 2018 After Prom
    • Credit card donations can be made directly using this link: DONATE HERE
    • Please note “For After Prom 2018” in the COMMENTS when making your donation.
  • Checks can be made out to Peak to Peak Charter School, indicate “After Prom 2018” in the memo line.
  • Donating prizes and gift cards directly to the program

Donations can also be mailed or brought to the school office and should be labeled 2018 After Prom. All donors and volunteers that contribute will be listed on our event website, www.p2pafterprom.com, and in a “Thank You” letter that will go out to the entire Peak to Peak Community. In the meantime, if you have questions or would like to volunteer on our committee, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity.

Sincerely,

Lisa Walther

NEW Cell Phone Protocol

Dear parents/guardians of Middle School learners,

There has been a change in cell phone protocol in the Boulder Valley School District, and we want you to know how that relates to us in the Middle School at Peak to Peak. Our learners have opportunities within their school day to participate in ways to use phones for instructional purposes, ie. Kahoot, research, etc. (students do not have to have cell phones because they can participate in such games by using their Chromebooks, however, they are welcome to use them if they have a phone). Teachers in the Middle School have always had the authority to keep phones from distracting the learning environment.

What is new is that our Middle School teachers have been asked to not physically take the device from students. If students make the choice to ignore such a reasonable request from a staff member, the teacher will use discretion in contacting you at home for support and/or have the student give up their privilege of having a cell phone at school. The teachers may ask the students to leave the phones in a safe locked location in the offices of the principals. We have asked our teachers to involve parents as soon as they can if a student chooses to not abide by our expectations. This new change has been put into place to protect our teachers from content that could be on the phones and/or what might happen to the physical state of the phone when it is in their possession. We appreciate your assistance at home in coaching our students to only use cell phones for approved instructional purposes. Thank you.

Message from Principal Preston on New 8-Period Academic Schedule Decision & Recent Standard/Honors Proposal Taken to the Board of Directors

Dear Middle School Students and Families:

Thank you for your input and patience while we go through course selection for the 2018-19 school year. We will be asking our teachers, students, and families to consider their best course options, while also considering the shift to an 8-period day. First of all, in our 8-period day model, we foresee...please click HERE to read the entire article.

8-Period Day Decision

Dear High School Students and Families:

Thank you for your patience while we go through course selection for 2018-19. We’ve asked our teachers, students, and families to consider their best course options, while also considering the shift to an 8-period day. I want to offer a few clarifications about what we can offer our students, and some of the inherent limitations with such scheduling in the weeks ahead.

On behalf of this year's Peak Gala Planning Committee we'd like to thank all of you who supported this year's event! We sincerely hope that all of you who attended, contributed to the auction or helped in some other way, enjoyed your participation and know that you are very much appreciated!

Many of you who were unable to attend have asked how you can still support the event. We had several duplicate auction items and have opened them up for the entire community to check out and buy now - first come, first serve!

** 2018 PEAK INNOVATION FUND: VIDEO and CONTRIBUTE **
The special appeal this year was to replenish the Peak Innovation Fund. This special earmarked account makes funds available to teachers who would like to implement an innovative idea in the classroom that would otherwise not be available with school funds. Last year 20 of 40 proposed projects were funded - and we'd like to do more! Our teachers have so many creative ideas - lets help them take risks and supply them with innovative resources to teach our students. Please check out our Innovation Fund video for more information and consider a gift to this campaign. Your Donation is 100% tax deductible.

We could not have this event without the support of our sponsors. Please join us in thanking the following companies for their support:

Title Sponsors: Acuswede, Susie Smyle RE/MAX, Quintess
Event Sponsors: Anne Larsen State Farm, Renner Sports, Twice Exceptional, Post Net, UTurn BBQ
Supporting Sponsors: COLO Trust, CCIG, Mountain View Corp, Malia Maunakea & Michelle Ingle, Service Master Clean, D A Davidson, Peak to Peak Board of Directors and Teri Andony & 6162 Productions

We had MANY businesses and individuals who contributed to our auction. For a full list of names including our amazing event committee, volunteers, sponsors and supporters please check out our event program. Throughout the year, please support these places and people and thank them for their contributions to Peak to Peak.

We look forward to welcoming you all to our next gala in 2019!

NEW Garden Volunteers Needed

We need 8-10 people to help spread mulch and do some weeding at the Peak to Peak Learning Garden from 9am-12p on April 14. High School students could come and earn volunteer hours. Please come and help to make our school the amazing place that it is. Come prepared to get dirty and bring gloves and water. We also need 1-2 wheelbarrows. Note that rain/snow postpones until April 28.
