NEW Way to Go Carpool Opt Out for 2018-2019

Peak to Peak uses a database called "Way to Go." All of our families are included, unless they opt-out. By being included, you are allowing "Way to Go" to share your information only with other Peak to Peak families that live near you for purposes of carpooling, play dates, last minute rides or anything else that would be helpful. You are not obligated to carpool; it is for informational purposes only. If you choose to Opt-out of the database for school year 2018-2019, please email the front office indicating your decision to do so by Wednesday, May 16, 2018. You can e-mail any of the following staff:

britta.mundhenke@bvsd.org

cindy.stahly@bvsd.org

tracey.sutton@bvsd.org

NEW Attendance Reminders

ALL: When leaving an attendance message on the attendance line, please say and spell your student's last name - even if it is a simple name. Give first name, grade, and reason for absence. Examples are illness, travel, family event, sporting event. Even if you've called the day before about sickness - please give the reason again.

Elementary and Middle School students can only be signed out by an adult age 18 or older.

High School: If your student is driving themselves to an appointment, please call early in the day to give your student permission to sign out so that we can get your student a pass to come and sign out for dismissal.

NEW Booket

Booket is a student-created service that allows students to post used textbooks for resale to other students. Changes in policy by the webhost had been leading to most messages sent from Booket being redirected to SPAM folders. We have put a fix in place that should reduce the chances of that happening. If you have been using the service earlier this year, you may need to check in your SPAM folder for emails.

NEW Box Tops

The next submission for Box Tops is coming up on June 1st. Our last pick up will be Friday, May 18th. Please make sure to clean out your cabinets and pantries and collect as many Box Tops as you can and deliver them to your child's teacher if in elementary school or to the container on the wall if middle or high school.

To turn in Box Tops, please cut them as close to the dotted lines as possible. Also, please check the expiration date on the front as we cannot submit any expired ones. Place the Box Tops in the box in your children’s classroom or bin located in the lobby of the South Building. Each Box Top is worth 10-cents to the school and can be found on many products you buy at the grocery store, including General Mills, Betty Crocker, Ziploc, Avery and more. Don’t forget that grandparents, neighbors, and friends are also a great source of the Box Tops. Let’s see if we can finish up the year strong! Please direct any questions to Carey Beneke at cbeneke99@msn.com.

NEW LMC Summer Program

The Peak to Peak library is gearing up for summer break. While summer presents an opportunity to relax and enjoy the sunshine, we want our students to continue to find ways to learn while away from the classroom. We have an exciting reading service available through OverDrive. The OverDrive collection provides free 24/7 access to eBooks and audiobooks. What better way to engage your student’s mind than through reading?

This summer, the OverDrive Summer Read program will offer a collection of Juvenile and Young Adult titles that will be prominently displayed in our digital collection for quick and easy unlimited access from June 6 – July 18, 2018.

Encourage your student to check OverDrive out today!

NEW After Prom Thanks

The 2018 P2P After Prom Committee sincerely thanks all of our sponsors and donors who made this year’s event incredibly successful! Your gifts and donations were greatly appreciated. We encourage all of our community to frequent these local businesses and give them your support. Please see attached list of sponsors.

NEW City of Lafayette Trail Project Parent Survey

Connected to a $300,000 Safe Routes to School grant awarded to the City of Lafayette that will transform a drainage ditch near school into a public trail tying into the city's Walk and Wheel Loop, we are being asked to complete a Parent Survey. The survey measures your opinions about health and safety related to your child's walking and bicycling. By completing it, you are showing your
support for safe routes to Peak to Peak and throughout Lafayette. Questions or comments may be directed to the BVSD Safe Routes to School Coordinator at landon.hilliard@bvsd.org . Thanks in advance for taking the survey!

NEW Sign Up Now for August Assessment Day/Registration

Each year in August, a few days before school begins, students meet with teachers for initial greetings, visiting classrooms, bringing school supplies, and starting beginning of year assessments. This allows students and teachers to get to know each other in small groups, gain familiarity with new classrooms and grade levels, and greatly reduces first-day jitters and materials.

Please sign up for one-time slot during our Assessment Days of August 13-15, 2018. Plan for your student to be at school approximately two hours. These days also serve as Elementary Registration Days, including school pictures and health room items, so plan to take care of those items either at the beginning or ending of the testing time slot.

Sign-ups will be completed on the same system we use for scheduling conferences. This will also email you a link with the ability to change over the summer should your plans change. Please visit https://peaktopeak.as.me/ to choose a time for the grade level your student will attend next year!

Secondary Spring Finals Schedule & Reminders

Dear Secondary Students, Parents and Families:

As we wrap up April and welcome warmer weather, we want to remind all students and families about our final exam schedule and how to finish the year in an optimal position for summer and the year ahead. Here comes summer break!

Consider this your official “heads up” that there are only three more weeks of regular instruction prior to finals examinations, and just one more week until College Board Advanced Placement exams begin this spring. Given this short timeline, below are the procedures we have in place for our students across the 6-12.

An essential element of our college prep experience here is to expose students to college-style final exams and the rigor of extended writing and problem-solving work. Given this, we intentionally balance the number of finals over the course of exam week to help students demonstrate mastery in each of their courses. Your assistance thinking ahead about our finals schedule, reducing conflicts with schedules so students have enough preparation time for exams, and helping guide your teens in their exam preparation will support their best performances. Final Examination Guidelines: please click here to read the entire article Secondary Finals Reminders

Garden Help

Time flies and by the end of the month school will be out for summer break. And that means...

The P2P Learning Garden is looking for families to volunteer this summer to provide ongoing TLC. When the students return to school in the fall, they will be thrilled to see the fruits (vegetables!) of your labor! What do you need to do? Sign up to help for a week. Summer Patrol starts on a Monday and finishes on a Sunday. You will make sure the garden is receiving enough water, weed a little, and check for plant damage and signs of insect problems. This will need to be done about 3x during your week. What's in it for you? The gratitude of the Learning Garden team, and the opportunity to take home some veggies if the timing is right! Not a green thumb? Not to worry! We will be in touch regarding what to look for and what needs to be done.

Please use this link to sign up for one week at a time: Garden Help

We appreciate you and your help in the garden! If you have any further questions, please email us at AnnieSasseville@yahoo.com or Raquel.Hink@gmail.com.

Thank you,

The P2P Learning Garden Team
