NEW Celebrating Our Successes

With the 2017-18 school year officially coming to a close, now is a great time to review some of the incredible successes we have enjoyed this year at Peak to Peak. Indeed, we have much to celebrate! Here are just a few of our significant accomplishments this year, which set the stage for even more success for our students and staff in the years ahead:

  • We published our new Strategic Plan, wherein our focus on Innovation is reflected in dynamic aspirational goals, strategies, and initiatives, and our continued focus on Excellence is demonstrated in 18 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): high-level, quantifiable measurements of the school’s critical success factors. This plan will serve as P2P’s guiding document in the next five years.

  • Using cash reserves, we purchased the vacant land next to the tennis courts, which will give P2P the option of expanding facilities in the future. Look for more communication and an invitation to be part of school-wide discussions on how to best utilize this land once the 2018-19 school year begins.

  • We launched the P2P Innovation Fund, which provided funding for teachers to purchase resources and implement a wide variety of creative, hands-on projects in their classrooms. As a result of our families’ generous support at the P2P Gala in March, we look forward to continuing this program in 2018-19.

  • The senior Class of 2018 achieved a 100% college acceptance rate and more than $23 million in scholarship awards.

  • We continued to receive a Top 100 school ranking, including #1 in Colorado by U.S. News and World Report

  • Many other accomplishments by students and staff are highlighted on various pages of our website and on our Facebook page.

In no small part, our successes are a reflection of the quality of our dynamic and engaged community, which includes students, staff and parents/guardians. Because of that, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all that you do to make this community so special. Peak to Peak would not be the school it is without your support and partnership, and I sincerely appreciate all that you do. Thank you!

Please accept my best wishes for a fun and relaxing summer.

See you in August,

Kelly Reeser

Executive Director of Education

NEW Update on Mill Levy Funding Issue

Thank you to everyone in our community who responded to our call to reach out to the BVSD Board of Education about the district’s implementation of the Mill Levy Equalization Act. We sincerely appreciate everyone who wrote letters and attended and/or participated in the BVSD Board meeting on May 22nd. Your advocacy and presence made a noticeable, positive difference! The Peak to Peak Board is proud to be amongst fellow charter school supporters who represent the best of what BVSD schools have to offer -- personalized academic programs and exceptional social/emotional support for students from all walks of life.

At the May 22nd meeting, BVSD Board members were unable to come to a consensus about how to proceed with their approach to implementation of the new law, so they have scheduled another study session for their meeting on June 12th, with a vote scheduled later in June. BVSD is required to post an implementation plan on their website by July 1, 2018. In the interim, we must continue to advocate for Peak to Peak’s interests, which, most simply, involves the district honoring the terms of our charter contract. We will continue to keep you updated over the summer as there is news to report. In the meantime, please feel free to communicate your opinions on this topic to the BVSD Board of Education.

For background and context on this issue, please see the following documents:

  • Digest communication published May 10th and May 17th.

  • A Peak to Peak position paper is HERE

  • Talking points for community members (developed by P2P) are HERE

  • Daily Camera article about the May 22nd BVSD Board of Education meeting is HERE

Thank you very much for your support of our school community, and for your engagement on this important issue!

Sincerely,

Kelly Reeser, Executive Director of Education

Sam Todd, Executive Director of Operations

Peak to Peak’s Board of Directors

NEW Library Notice

Students & Families -

All library materials, including textbooks, were due to the library by the end of school. If you have any library materials still checked out, please return them by Friday, June 1. The library building will be open with limited hours for book return only. Please return any outstanding items to the LMC lobby between 9a - 2p, Tuesday 5/28 through Friday 6/1. Any book not returned by that date will be assumed lost, and the family will be charged for a replacement cost of the item. These fees will be reflected in each student's Rev-Trak account and are non-negotiable once assigned.

Thanks for your help and cooperation in maintaining our supplies of textbooks and library materials for other students in future years.

Sincerely,
Sheena Kelly - Secondary Teacher Librarian
Christina Gillen - Elementary Teacher Librarian
Pam Rutigliano - Secondary Library Assistant
Jody Heidorn - Elementary Library Assistant

NEW Peak to Peak's new website will go live June 1st

Instructions for parent/guardian access will be provided in August. Teachers are currently working on their classroom pages, which will be activated in time for the first day of school. Students will be taught how to use the new website in August. Along with this website change, our communication systems are also being upgraded, so you will notice a change in the appearance communications coming from the school. We are eager to hear your feedback about the new systems in August!

NEW Bottled Water No Longer for Sale

Beginning in August, in alignment with Peak to Peak's school-wide effort to reduce waste, the cafeteria will no longer sell bottled water. Students should plan to bring a fillable water bottle to school each day. Fresh drinking water is continuously available from the water fountains throughout campus as well as in the large jugs located in the cafeteria. Many thanks to the staff and volunteers on the Wellness Advisory Council for spearheading this environmentally-conscious change.

Sign Up Now for August Assessment Day/Registration

Each year in August, a few days before school begins, students meet with teachers for initial greetings, visiting classrooms, bringing school supplies, and starting beginning of year assessments. This allows students and teachers to get to know each other in small groups, gain familiarity with new classrooms and grade levels, and greatly reduces first-day jitters and materials.

Please sign up for one-time slot during our Assessment Days of August 13-15, 2018. Plan for your student to be at school approximately two hours. These days also serve as Elementary Registration Days, including school pictures and health room items, so plan to take care of those items either at the beginning or ending of the testing time slot.

Sign-ups will be completed on the same system we use for scheduling conferences. This will also email you a link with the ability to change over the summer should your plans change. Please visit https://peaktopeak.as.me/ to choose a time for the grade level your student will attend next year!
