NEW Do You Plan on Not Returning to P2P Next Year?

Dear K-12 Families,

Each year over the summer we inevitably have some students leave Peak to Peak usually due to a move, either within Colorado, but out of district, or out of state or country.  These moves are found and verified at the start of school in August based solely on the fact that these students simply do not show up for school.  As a small school, even a minor student population number change has a huge effect.  It’s my theory that these summer withdrawals are undisclosed mostly because the procedure is either unclear or unknown; this letter is to help alleviate some of that misunderstanding or confusion.

  • If towards the end of the current school year it becomes apparent that your family will be relocating, or continuing your student’s education outside of BVSD, I ask that you send me an email and begin the process of a formal withdraw from Peak to Peak.  Having said that though, please know that your student will not be withdrawn until the current school year ends unless it is your request to do so. Withdrawal paperwork can be picked up in the main office or I can email it to you. Withdrawal paperwork can be collected with a postdated withdrawal date; usually the day after the last day of school. However, textbooks, library books, uniforms, etc. must be returned before the process is considered complete.  These steps will occur after general course study is complete, during the final weeks of school, but I would love to hear from you now to help me estimate these numbers.  During the last week, all accounts must be clear, uniforms and books must be returned, and lockers must be cleaned out as part of this process.
  • If you think there is a possibility that you’ll be relocating your student, but are not sure before the school year ends, I ask that you let me know about this possibility.  I will forward the withdrawal form to you for future use.  You may also visit the main office to pick up a withdrawal form to use it when the decision becomes clear for your family.  Withdrawal forms can be mailed, emailed, or faxed, (using my direct fax number listed below), to the school during the summer. (My preferred method is email.)  In preparation, please ensure that all accounts are clear, lockers are cleaned out, and that books and uniforms are returned.
  • If after the current school year has ended, you learn that your students will not be returning to Peak to Peak, please email me as soon as possible, and I will reply with a withdrawal form and an enrollment confirmation form for the new school.  You will then be able to return the withdrawal form through email, mail, or fax, (using my direct fax number listed below). (email is preferred) Please understand that all fees or fines will need to be addressed in the fall.

While we’re sad to see our students leave our Puma family we realize sometimes this can’t be helped. Early knowledge of these summer transfers will help us to finalize space availability much sooner, which will help with our continuing Open Enrollment process and a formal withdrawal saves countless hours, alleviates frustrations, and provides openings for new families to become a branch on our family tree.  As always thank you for your understanding and support.

NEW Counseling and Character Connection

The character trait for the month of March is COOPERATION.  Cooperation means working well with others to reach a common goal.  In the classroom, students will work collaboratively on lessons, discuss successful ways to cooperate at lunch and recess and discuss how to continue those practices.  Our student council members will encourage us to think about cooperation in their monthly newscast. All StuCo Newscasts can be found on the Peak to Peak website on the Elementary page under Character Development.

During the month of March, students will continue to work on their social/emotional learning through the In Focus curriculum. Students in all grades will discuss conflict resolution strategies like making connections between anger and hurt, using mindfulness to help calm your body and brain and making connections to characters or scenarios in lessons to help solve real-life problems.

We appreciate your continued support in your students’ social emotional development by taking a moment to ask about how they are feeling about school, what is going well and what could improve.   If you have any questions about the counseling lessons or our character education, please feel free to contact Mrs. Ball, Elementary Counselor, alexis.ball@bvsd.org.

NEW 2019-2020 Middle School Course Registration Reminder for Current 6th and 7th Graders

Dear Middle School Students and Guardians (Current 6th and 7th grade only),

The time has come to complete course selection for the upcoming school year! Paper course selection forms will be distributed on Monday, March 4th in your student’s History class. Middle school students do not register for classes through Infinite Campus; they complete paper registration forms. These forms must be returned to either your student’s History teacher or Counselor by Friday, March 8th at 3:10 PM.

This year’s course selection forms will be two-sided, with a computerized printout of your student’s required year-long classes on one side and a place to select choices on the other side. The core classes will show as "required courses," and it should be noted they are recommended placements, not guaranteed placements. We ask that your student choose 8 elective classes on the choice side of the form. Students are asked to rank order their choices from 1-8. Course selection forms also need to be signed by you and your student.

Included is the powerpoint that will be presented to students during Monday’s history class to help walk students through how to fill out their course selection forms.

Summer reading: Make sure to note the courses your student is recommended for so you can plan accordingly for summer assignments.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this document at home with your middle schooler! You will be able to see a final schedule in mid-August in the Infinite Campus Portal prior to registration day. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s counselor. We realize it is a fast turnaround, and the sooner the selection, the higher the opportunities for choice.

Sincerely,

Stephanie Magdic                                  Andrea Salvo

Secondary Parents and Guardians: Please Provide Your Feedback About New Schedule

As you know, this year Peak to Peak shifted its secondary schedule to include eight periods on Mondays, with alternating block days from Tuesday through Friday. In keeping with Peak to Peak's strategic priorities of making the most effective use of time possible and continually improving our programs, the rationale for making this shift was to provide more elective options for students and more flexibility during the regular school day. Another goal was to create more collaboration time for teachers. Earlier this year, we asked you to share your impressions of the new schedule, and we are repeating this survey now to find out if those impressions have changed. Please help us evaluate the first semester by providing your feedback in THIS SURVEY.   Thank you!

Fingerprinting Process

You can no longer get your fingerprints done at the police station in Colorado. Colorado has decided to use a third party vendor to handle all of its background needs.  Going forward to become a volunteer at Peak to Peak you will need to get the paperwork from our front office which will walk you through the steps of how to get your fingerprints done. Each volunteer will receive a unique code that will pay for your fingerprints so it will no longer be an out of pocket cost to you.  If you have any questions about the process please feel free to email harrisonnicole@me.com

Volunteer Sign-in Process

We are super excited about our new badges for volunteers.  If you have had a background check and have been approved you will receive an email to come in and get your new badge with a picture and scanning capability. if you have your new badge we will no longer need you to sign in on the paper sheet at the attendance window. Show the office your badge and once through the locked doors in the south lobby follow the instructions below to scan into the computer.  The instructions will also be printed at the computer for your convenience. This is going to help make our school safer, more efficient, and hopefully make coming and going easier for you.

1. Use barcode on the back of your badge to scan in using the scanner.
2. Choose either An Activity or A Classroom
3. Select the classroom or the activity.
4. Before you leave the building after volunteering scan out so we know you have left the building.

Volunteer Facebook Page

We have a new Facebook page for volunteers. We will be posting the weekly update of what is coming up and last minute volunteer needs. Please subscribe to help make the page a successful tool. We will not over post to ensure we protect your time and social media barrage of information:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1594466300665141/

Volunteer Board

We have a volunteer board next to our login computer in the south lobby that will showcase all of the coming needs for the school.  Take a moment if you prefer to see our opportunities in person.

Volunteer Process

We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed all three volunteer forms then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis at traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.  If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the three volunteer forms each year.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email one of the people below.  We would love to meet you.
