NEW Employee Opinion Survey Results

Dear Peak to Peak Community,

Each year in the spring semester Peak to Peak conducts an Employee Opinion Survey. Results from this survey are an important measurement the administration uses to guide staff development and school improvement efforts in areas related to culture and climate. Employee Opinion Survey results are also one of our KPIs in the Relationship category on the Strategic Plan.

For the past six years, this survey has been created and administered by Employers Council (EC), an employment services agency with more than 4,000 member organizations. EC conducts surveys for hundreds of organizations across industries in the western United States. Results were compiled and analyzed entirely by EC.

The 2019 Employee Opinion results are summarized in this presentation, which was given to our Board of Directors at their regular meeting on March 6, 2019, by EC representative Brittany Johnson. The following are highlights of those results:

  • All employees were asked to participate in the survey. 136 of 182 eligible employees completed the survey for a response rate of 75%, which is in line with averages for other organizations that work with EC.
  • The overall mean of the survey is 4.13 on a 5-point Likert scale, with 5.00 being the most positive possible score.
  • Out of 37 questions, 100% of responses scored in the somewhat to very positive range. No questions scored in the negative range.
  • The highest number of positive responses were received in the dimension of culture & climate.
  • The lowest number of positive responses were received in the dimension of compensation & benefits, which is consistent with past years’ results.

As in past years, Peak to Peak’s scores generally reflect high employee satisfaction. In every category of the survey — Communication, Culture & Climate, and Compensation & Benefits — scores fell within positive ranges. However, there were areas where staff members expressed concerns either through the rating of the questions or their comments. The Executive Leadership Team (ELT) takes the survey results seriously and has begun responding with changes to address the concerns that were expressed. Those follow-up actions will be summarized in a written response to the survey, which will be completed in the next month. This report will be shared with the Peak to Peak community when it is finished.

We thank Brittany Johnson and others on the EC team for the diligent work they do to carry out our survey each year, as well as all of our staff members who take the time to provide their valuable feedback. NEW K-12 School Supply Drive Information

The Peak to Peak Key Club is proud to be leading the collection of school supplies for Children of Peace International (COPI) and Crayons to Calculators. These supplies will provide children in local and international schools with the resources necessary to learn.  Visit https://sites.google.com/bvsd.org/supplies/home to see a video on the project.

NEW BVSD Board of Ed Elections in 2019

Dear Charter School Families,

In the November 2019 general election, four out of seven seats on the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) Board of Education will be up for election. This presents an opportunity for charter community members to run for a seat on the Board. Although charter schools operate semi-autonomously by design, our contracts with BVSD connect us all to the district in significant ways. Being able to work effectively and in partnership with district officials and Board members is critically important for the health and well-being of charter schools and for all of our students. As a charter school supporter and community member, please consider running for a seat or encouraging others who might be interested to do so.

Once elected, Board members represent the entire district, but candidates must reside in the area in which they are running, and they must have been a resident there for at least 12 months prior to the election. The seats that are up for election in 2019 include:

District A - Currently held by Shelley Benford (Central Boulder)

District C - Currently held by Kathy Gephardt (Southwest Boulder, Table Mesa)

District D - Currently held by Sam Fuqua (Northeast Boulder)

District G - Currently held by Richard Garcia (Lafayette area)

Specific deadlines about the election have not yet been published by BVSD, but we anticipate that anyone interested in running for a seat would need to declare their candidacy by early September 2019. Updated election guidelines will be posted on BVSD’s website as soon as those are ready.

K-12 Pi Day Competition
 
We are hosting our annual K-12 Pi Day Recitation Competition at Peak to Peak!  Details:
 
Location: Auditeria 
Time: 3.10-4.30 PM
Entrants will need to recite the digits of Pi by heart.  The student with the most digits is crowned Champion. Of course, there will be different fruit pies for contestants!

2019 REQUEST FOR BOARD OF DIRECTOR CANDIDATES 

The 2019 election for the Peak to Peak Board of Directors is coming in early May.  There will be TWO OPEN SEATS for elected board members. Both seats have 3-year terms.  All non-employee school and local community members are encouraged to consider serving on the board.  Any candidate for the Peak to Peak Board of Directors, in order to have his or her name placed on the ballot, must deliver a signed Peak to Peak Board Handbook at the time of his or her candidacy submission, which constitutes an agreement to abide by the Board Orientation/Training requirements in the Board Handbook.  The Board Handbook will be sent to any candidate who is interested in possible candidacy for review. 

There will be two information sessions for anyone interested in possible candidacy for our Board of Directors.  The session will give you a brief explanation of BOD responsibilities.  The sessions are identical and offered at two different times in our Think Tank conference room.  There is no need to RSVP:

  • Monday, February 25 5:00-6:00 PM
  • Tuesday, February 26 8:30-9:30 AM

Once you have decided to run for a board seat, you must formally declare your candidacy by submitting to traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org written responses to the following questions by Monday, April 1, 2019 3:00 PM : 

  1. Please provide an introductory paragraph about yourself (150 words or less).  A photograph of yourself is optional but encouraged.  Please do NOT include any links to outside websites or resources.
  1. Please explain what appeals to you most about Peak to Peak.
  1. Briefly describe why you wish to serve on the Peak to Peak Board of Directors.
  1. What experience and skills would you bring to the Peak to Peak Board of Directors?
  1. What do you feel is the most important issue now facing Peak to Peak?
  1. Please describe your familiarity with Peak to Peak's Strategic Plan and explain the direction in which you would like to see Peak to Peak progress.
  1. What do you understand Peak to Peak's philosophy to be and how do you support it?
  1. If elected, how do you expect to separate your parental and board member duties?  

A preliminary candidate list will be published to all of the candidates on April 1st after the 3:00 PM candidacy deadline.  Candidates will then have the opportunity to withdraw from the election if they change their mind about running or make any edits to their responses between April 1st and April 4th.  Responses from the candidates who wish to remain in the election will be distributed by email to families in our Friday, April 5th Friday Digest and published on our website. 

All candidates must attend our candidate question & answer session on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 6:30 PM.  Voting instructions and timeline will be communicated to the entire Peak to Peak community in May.  Please see the below Election Guidelines information sheet for election information, timeline, and campaign guidelines.

Elementary Talent Show

It’s time to plan and register your act for the Elementary Talent Show!  Musicians, acrobats, athletes, comics, magicians - all talents are welcome! Use the links below to complete the online registration form.  New this year is submitting your audition by video.  Videos must be submitted by Friday, March 15. Save the video to Google Drive or YouTube and share with bonner001@aim.com. Maximum 5 minutes in duration.

Elementary Customizable Yearbook Pages and Photos Needed
 
Hello, Elementary Families!  This year we are trying something new and exciting for our elementary yearbooks.  You can now customize your child's yearbook by uploading your own pictures and designing your own pages!  The first two pages are free to customize.  The deadline is March 29.  Please see the attached flyer.

NEW Middle School Class Meetings: Character Ed and Self-Care
 
Yesterday, the entire middle school participated in grade level lessons: Sixth grade focused on the impact of their choices on themselves, their friends, and our community as a whole; Seventh grade had a continuation lesson from the Courage Retreat; Eighth graders were led by high school student leaders to reflect on choices and their overall well being as they prepare to make the transition to high school. 
 
Following our class lessons, students self-selected into one of three locations for free play outside, artwork or reading in the auditeria, or a Zumba class in the gym. We share this with you so conversations on self-care and choices can continue at home as it pertains to school. We hope students had fun and are also able to connect these topics with our values of IROAR (inclusion, respect, opportunity, accountability, and responsibility).

We are bringing back Middle School IM Volleyball!
  • Starting the Intramural season March 11th and ending April 17th. 
  • Practices on Monday/Wednesday  from 3:30-4:30 
  • Open to 6-8th graders, all levels
  • COED

Monday, March 11th is a PD day and a no school day. We ARE still having tryouts/practice for our middle school spring sports.

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION & NEEDS: 

A huge thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped execute an amazing Gala last week and a wonderful Staff Appreciation Week this week. Everyone, myself included, appreciates all that you do for our school so take a moment and thank the people who helped make this all possible.
 
 

NEED: Boys and Girls Basketball Ticket Sales and Concession Volunteers Needed 

The Girls' & Boys' Basketball teams are in need of volunteers to help with concessions and ticket sales on game days! One volunteer per shift is needed - also a perfect opportunity to have your High School student volunteer with you for community service hours!   
It's easy, no experience needed - everything will be set up for you in concessions - we just need your help serving customers. Fingerprinting Process
 
You can no longer get your fingerprints done at the police station in Colorado. Colorado has decided to use a third-party vendor to handle all of its background needs.  Going forward to become a volunteer at Peak to Peak you will need to get the paperwork from our front office which will walk you through the steps of how to get your fingerprints done. Each volunteer will receive a unique code that will pay for your fingerprints so it will no longer be an out of pocket cost to you.  If you have any questions about the process please feel free to email harrisonnicole@me.com
 
 
Volunteer Sign-in Process
 
We are super excited about our new badges for volunteers.  If you have had a background check and have been approved you will receive an email to come in and get your new badge with a picture and scanning capability. if you have your new badge we will no longer need you to sign in on the paper sheet at the attendance window. Show the office your badge and once through the locked doors in the south lobby follow the instructions below to scan into the computer.  The instructions will also be printed at the computer for your convenience. This is going to help make our school safer, more efficient, and hopefully make coming and going easier for you.
 
1. Use barcode on the back of your badge to scan in using the scanner.
2. Choose either An Activity or A Classroom
3. Select the classroom or the activity.
4. Before you leave the building after volunteering scan out so we know you have left the building.

Volunteer Process
 
We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed all three volunteer forms then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis at traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.  If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the three volunteer forms each year.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.
