NEW K-12 School Supply Drive Continues Through Tuesday 3/19
Due to some snowy obstacles this week, we are extending our Spring Service School Supply collection through next Tuesday, March 19th.  Please continue bringing in supplies.  THANK YOU all for your support and encouragement during this supply drive!  A reminder that although we have "assigned" supplies for each grade/grade level, ANY supply is welcomed and all will be donated to COPI and Crayons for Calculators.   

NEW Congratulations to Megan Freeman - BVSD Impact Award Winner
Congratulations to Megan Freeman, Peak to Peak's Director of Professional Development, for winning BVSD's Impact on Education Award this year! Megan has played a strong leadership role in Peak to Peak's development and she has been an invaluable member of the staff for the past 18 years. She has worn many hats since the school started, including as our first theater teacher, an English teacher, English and Humanities department chair, Induction Supervisor and, most recently, as our Director of Professional Development. Ms. Freeman was nominated for this award by several of her colleagues because of her selfless commitment to our community, and her strong dedication to instructional excellence, which she also inspires in those with whom she works.
We thank the Impact on Education Foundation for recognizing Ms. Freeman with this wonderful award. Their highly esteemed program recognizes people in the Boulder Valley School District who "make an extraordinary impact on student learning through exceptional teaching skills, job dedication, volunteering and/or leadership."  We are so proud of Ms. Freeman for winning this prestigious award!

BVSD Board of Ed Elections in 2019

Dear Charter School Families,

In the November 2019 general election, four out of seven seats on the Boulder Valley School District (BVSD) Board of Education will be up for election. This presents an opportunity for charter community members to run for a seat on the Board. Although charter schools operate semi-autonomously by design, our contracts with BVSD connect us all to the district in significant ways. Being able to work effectively and in partnership with district officials and Board members is critically important for the health and well-being of charter schools and for all of our students. As a charter school supporter and community member, please consider running for a seat or encouraging others who might be interested to do so.

Once elected, Board members represent the entire district, but candidates must reside in the area in which they are running, and they must have been a resident there for at least 12 months prior to the election. The seats that are up for election in 2019 include:

District A - Currently held by Shelley Benford (Central Boulder)

District C - Currently held by Kathy Gephardt (Southwest Boulder, Table Mesa)

District D - Currently held by Sam Fuqua (Northeast Boulder)

District G - Currently held by Richard Garcia (Lafayette area)

Specific deadlines about the election have not yet been published by BVSD, but we anticipate that anyone interested in running for a seat would need to declare their candidacy by early September 2019. Updated election guidelines will be posted on BVSD’s website as soon as those are ready.

2019-2020 Yearly Calendars 

The 2019-2020 yearly calendars were approved by the Board and are now posted on our website.  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis at traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org with any questions.   



The 2019 election for the Peak to Peak Board of Directors is coming in early May.  There will be TWO OPEN SEATS for elected board members. Both seats have 3-year terms.  All non-employee school and local community members are encouraged to consider serving on the board.  Any candidate for the Peak to Peak Board of Directors, in order to have his or her name placed on the ballot, must deliver a signed Peak to Peak Board Handbook at the time of his or her candidacy submission, which constitutes an agreement to abide by the Board Orientation/Training requirements in the Board Handbook.  The Board Handbook will be sent to any candidate who is interested in possible candidacy for review. 

If you would like to have further information, please contact Traci Schoeneweis at traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org.  Election Committee members for 2019 are:  Ethan Miley -Chair, Tina Crist (community rep), Joanne Hyman (BOD rep), Lisa Tracy (Accountability Committee rep), Jennifer Douglass (community rep), Kate Martin (Accountability Committee rep), Jaimee Miller (BOD rep), Traci Schoeneweis (staff rep) and Terri Tarbutton (staff rep).  In addition to attending the information sessions, you can learn more by attending an upcoming board meeting, speaking with a current or previous board member, and reviewing the Board of Directors' page on our website. 

Once you have decided to run for a board seat, you must formally declare your candidacy by submitting to traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org written responses to the following questions by Monday, April 1, 2019 3:00 PM : 

  1. Please provide an introductory paragraph about yourself (150 words or less).  A photograph of yourself is optional but encouraged.  Please do NOT include any links to outside websites or resources.
  1. Please explain what appeals to you most about Peak to Peak.
  1. Briefly describe why you wish to serve on the Peak to Peak Board of Directors.
  1. What experience and skills would you bring to the Peak to Peak Board of Directors?
  1. What do you feel is the most important issue now facing Peak to Peak?
  1. Please describe your familiarity with Peak to Peak's Strategic Plan and explain the direction in which you would like to see Peak to Peak progress.
  1. What do you understand Peak to Peak's philosophy to be and how do you support it?
  1. If elected, how do you expect to separate your parental and board member duties?  

A preliminary candidate list will be published to all of the candidates on April 1st after the 3:00 PM candidacy deadline.  Candidates will then have the opportunity to withdraw from the election if they change their mind about running or make any edits to their responses between April 1st and April 4th.  Responses from the candidates who wish to remain in the election will be distributed by email to families in our Friday, April 5th Friday Digest and published on our website. 

All candidates must attend our candidate question & answer session on Wednesday, May 1st, 2019 at 6:30 PM.  Voting instructions and timeline will be communicated to the entire Peak to Peak community in May.  Please see the below Election Guidelines information sheet for election information, timeline, and campaign guidelines.

NEW Elementary Homeroom Placement Procedure Form for 2019-2020  

We welcome your input about your child’s placement for next year. This form will be given to the current classroom teachers for consideration in next year’s placement.  Please consider that your child’s current and future teachers will be reading your input.  Forms will be screened for appropriate language. Please do not request a specific teacher.   Forms are due to either the homeroom teacher or the front office by Friday, April 5, 2019.

NEW Middle School Dance on April 5th 
The next formal middle school dance is April 5th in the northwest gym and cafeteria.  It is called the Golden Gala. If you purchase a ticket in advance a random ticket will be chosen and that person and 4 friends will receive VIP status for the night. There will be a roulette wheel and card games. A DJ and classy snacks on gold platters will be provided.   Purchase your tickets with a contract on Revtrack or pay by cash in the cafeteria by getting a contract first from the Stuco notice board. NEW 2019-2020 Peak Innovation Fund has Kicked Off!
The 2019-2020 Peak Innovation Fund was kicked off at this year's Peak Gala.  Check out our video with a snapshot of last year's funded projects.  All donations to the Peak Innovation Fund go directly to fund innovative K-12 projects in the 2019-2020 school year.  The more money available in this flexible fund, the more innovative projects can be funded and implanted on campus.   All donors receive updates on the proposed projects and selection process.  Thank you in advance for supporting our teachers and students through this unique campaign. Fingerprinting Process
You can no longer get your fingerprints done at the police station in Colorado. Colorado has decided to use a third-party vendor to handle all of its background needs.  Going forward to become a volunteer at Peak to Peak you will need to get the paperwork from our front office which will walk you through the steps of how to get your fingerprints done. Each volunteer will receive a unique code that will pay for your fingerprints so it will no longer be an out of pocket cost to you.  If you have any questions about the process please feel free to email harrisonnicole@me.com
Volunteer Sign-in Process
We are super excited about our new badges for volunteers.  If you have had a background check and have been approved you will receive an email to come in and get your new badge with a picture and scanning capability. if you have your new badge we will no longer need you to sign in on the paper sheet at the attendance window. Show the office your badge and once through the locked doors in the south lobby follow the instructions below to scan into the computer.  The instructions will also be printed at the computer for your convenience. This is going to help make our school safer, more efficient, and hopefully make coming and going easier for you.
1. Use barcode on the back of your badge to scan in using the scanner.
2. Choose either An Activity or A Classroom
3. Select the classroom or the activity.
4. Before you leave the building after volunteering scan out so we know you have left the building.

We have a new Facebook page for volunteers. We will be posting the weekly update of what is coming up and last minute volunteer needs. Please subscribe to help make the page a successful tool. We have a volunteer board next to our login computer in the south lobby that will showcase all of the coming needs for the school.  Take a moment if you prefer to see our opportunities in person.
Volunteer Process
We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed all three volunteer forms then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis at traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.  If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the three volunteer forms each year.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.
