NEW Safety Thank You

Dear Peak to Peak Community,

Thank you to everyone in our community -- staff, students, parents, and guardians -- who played a role in our smooth return to school on Thursday following the school closure on Wednesday. I deeply appreciate the way that staff and students quickly adjusted to revised schedules and lesson plans and carried on with established routines to ensure a sense of normalcy. The safety threat that prompted schools across the metro area to close on Wednesday was unexpected and unsettling to be sure, but it was reassuring to be part of the coordinated response from school districts, local law enforcement agencies, and the FBI. All parties were aligned in actions and communication, and in understanding that school safety was the top priority in this situation. I would again like to extend my thanks to our local law enforcement officers as well as BVSD leadership, who have all been very supportive of Peak to Peak, and of all the schools in our area.

Ensuring that we have strong safety systems in place at Peak to Peak requires a clear plan and ongoing practice. This is why we do a variety of safety drills on a regular basis, and it’s also why we have procedures and expectations in place for visitors and guests at the school’s entrances and throughout the campus. Please make sure you are familiar with Peak to Peak’s Emergency Preparedness Protocols. It’s important for everyone in our community to understand these protocols and to support our ongoing efforts to keep our students safe, a responsibility that we take very seriously.

As we head into a spring weekend, I would like to extend my very best wishes to all of you for some time to relax and enjoy your time with friends and family. We’re quickly approaching the end of the school year now is a good time to rest, rejuvenate and to reflect on our students’ amazing accomplishments and the wonderful human beings that they are. Thank you all you do and for being part of our outstanding school community!

Kelly Reeser

Executive Director of Education

NEW Garden Help Needed This Saturday

Spring is here and the Peak Learning Garden needs YOUR help! No green thumbs are necessary, just a little passion to keep our garden looking beautiful and bursting with color!
Saturday, April 20th is the 17th Annual Lafayette in Action Day, hosted by the Empowerment Center of East County, (EC)^2.   This day is an opportunity to support local organizations and the community through service projects around Lafayette.

Our MS art teacher, Mrs. Jessica Manzanares, will be helping coordinate a group of community volunteers who have generously offered to help pull weeds and lend a hand in our Peak Learning Garden. Do you have a middle or high schooler who would like volunteer hours? This is a great way to get them!
Please help support Mrs. Manzanares and her ambitious volunteer group - Let’s show our GREEN Puma pride on Saturday! The volunteers will work from 9:30-11:30 on Saturday at the Peak Learning Garden.  Tools and gloves will be provided.

Friends of P2P

Support your favorite K-12 grade by donating to support this year's Run for the Peak!  This annual event is also our last fundraising event of the year, so this is a great time to show your support of our students and teachers.  Students are invited to set up a fundraising page to send to family and friends to be eligible for prizes including Water World, Elitches and reserved parking spots for next year.  Thank you to all Puma families for your ongoing support of our school as we work to raise $30,000 to help supplement our annual funding gap.

King Soopers Update!
Thank you to our 216 Families who have signed up so far!  Please join other Puma families by connecting your phone number or loyalty card number to Peak to Peak.  If we can double to number currently enrolled that will still be around 1/2 of our total families which could result in an additional $30,000+ to support our school.

Whether you attended this year's Peak Gala or not it's very important to us to receive feedback on this event.  We encourage you to take 2 minutes to complete this simple survey to ensure we are able to plan this event in a way that reflects our community.  This event requires significant volunteer contributions of our community's time and talent so please take the time to let us know we are on the right track and let us know if you would like to be involved in next year's event!  Thank you!

New Family Mentors
Are you interested in welcoming our new Puma families?  Please send us a quick email at friends of Peak at p2p.friends@bvsd.org and we will provide more information on this program.   Mentors will be assigned a handful of new families to contact over the summer and fall to answer questions and ideally meet in person at our Welcome Back Coffee.  Most of our new families are entering Kindergarten, 6th and 9th so we will assign families to mentors who have experienced those levels.  Thank you!

Volunteer

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION & NEEDS:

NEW NEED: Run for the Peak is coming up on May 3rd. We will need a few volunteers to help set up and some volunteers to man the water station during the event. We made the volunteer times short so you could volunteer for an hour before or after your kiddos time to run. Thank you for your help:  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-Sg77feYzmUmtAQO3TUGQ0oGV0t-jSUoGD59mD7yRk0

NEED:  Please see our Volunteer Sign up for the Book Swap.  We are seeking 4 volunteers for Thursday, April 25 from 2-4 and 4 volunteers for Friday, April 26 from 2-4.  They will help set up tables, unpack books for the swap, pack up books after the swap and help breakdown the tables. Please contact Allie Cross with any questions.

NEED:  The elementary art show is approaching quickly and I need volunteers to make it happen. The kids love this event but it takes a lot of work getting everything tagged and hung for the event. Please use the link to sign up to help. There are a lot of flexible volunteer opportunities. Art Show Volunteers Please contact Katy Mathes with any questions.

NEED:  We would love some help with volunteering in our middle school math classrooms. Here is a link that you can use to let us know your availability. We do not teach period 5 as a math team.  We look forward to having your support in the classroom.  Questions?  Please contact:

Fingerprinting Process

You can no longer get your fingerprints done at the police station in Colorado. Colorado has decided to use a third-party vendor to handle all of its background needs.  Going forward to become a volunteer at Peak to Peak you will need to get the paperwork from our front office which will walk you through the steps of how to get your fingerprints done. Each volunteer will receive a unique code that will pay for your fingerprints so it will no longer be an out of pocket cost to you.  If you have any questions about the process please feel free to email harrisonnicole@me.com

Volunteer Sign-in Process

We are super excited about our new badges for volunteers.  If you have had a background check and have been approved you will receive an email to come in and get your new badge with a picture and scanning capability. if you have your new badge we will no longer need you to sign in on the paper sheet at the attendance window. Show the office your badge and once through the locked doors in the south lobby follow the instructions below to scan into the computer.  The instructions will also be printed at the computer for your convenience. This is going to help make our school safer, more efficient, and hopefully make coming and going easier for you.

1. Use barcode on the back of your badge to scan in using the scanner.
2. Choose either An Activity or A Classroom
3. Select the classroom or the activity.
4. Before you leave the building after volunteering scan out so we know you have left the building.

Volunteer Facebook Page

We have a new Facebook page for volunteers. We will be posting the weekly update of what is coming up and last minute volunteer needs. Please subscribe to help make the page a successful tool. We will not over post to ensure we protect your time and social media barrage of information:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/1594466300665141/

Volunteer Board

We have a volunteer board next to our login computer in the south lobby that will showcase all of the coming needs for the school.  Take a moment if you prefer to see our opportunities in person.

Volunteer Process

We will continue to request fingerprints from anyone who intends to volunteer more than once during the school year.  If you had your fingerprints done previously and completed all three volunteer forms then you do not need to complete any volunteer paperwork this year!  Please contact Traci Schoeneweis at traci.schoeneweis@bvsd.org or 303-453-4682 to verify your volunteer status if you are unsure.  If you only intend to volunteer once then you will be required to do the background check (not fingerprints) and the three volunteer forms each year.  Please follow this link to print them or pick them up at registration:  Volunteer Information

Volunteer training is online.  Anyone that is new to the school needs to view this before volunteering.  If you have previously attended or taken the volunteer training you do not need to do it again.  It’s a good idea for returning volunteers to view this as well.  Follow this link Volunteer Training to view the information.  It can also be found on the volunteer page of the school website.

Your Volunteer Team would love to hear from you. If you have any interest in volunteering for anything at all but do not know where to start please email one of the people below.  We would love to meet you.
